Larch pine stitch-resist on reversed ground

Technique: Karamatsu Shibori (Okkochi) - Stitch resist in the shape of a semicircle over folds. After stitches are completed, the threads are drawn up tight and knotted to create a resist before dyeing. This particular example has swapped the usual esist of the motif to the ground, which is called Shirokage (White Shadow). Pattern: Larch Pine - The dark radiating lines in karamatsu shibori's circular shape evoke the radiating pine needles of the Japanese larch, which is found mainly in the mountains of Chūbu and Kantō regions in central Honshū.
