Size & Quantity Guide
What Size Bracket Should I Use?
- NOTE: Ideally you want no more than 3" of unsupported countertop extending past the end of your bracket.
- Now, lets figure out what size bracket you need. Take the depth of your countertop overhang, in this example we will use a 15" overhang. Now add the depth of your knee or pony wall framing, which will be 4" to 6" depending on framing material used. 15" overhang + 4" framing = 19" total depth. Now take 19" and subtract 3", this is the amount of countertop that will overhang past the end of these brackets.
- This is what that math looks like: (15" + 4") - 3" = 16"
- Results: You would want to order a 16" bracket.
How Many Brackets Do I Order?
- If you are going to be mounting these to a framed Knee or Pony wall it is advised that you put one bracket on top of each stud 16 - 24" apart. So you would order the same number of brackets as you have studs in the framing under your countertop.
- If you are mounting these to a header like on a reinforced cabinet base we advise you still mount them either 16 or 24 inches apart.
- Lest calculate the number of bracket you would need if you are mounting them to a header style framing.
- To figure out how many brackets you need lets start with 2 brackets at each end of the countertop set 4" - 6" inches in from the edge.
- Now measure the distance between the 2 end brackets and use the following formula:
- (Distance Between) divided by/ (desired bracket spacing).
- Example 76 / 16 = 4.75, so you need 4 more brackets to support the space left between the two end brackets.
- Here is an example using a real countertop installation:
- An 84" wide countertop with 2 brackets set 4 inches from the end would leave you with 76" left to support; (84" - 8" = 76"). Now take 76" divided by / 16" = 4.75, So you would need 3 more brackets for the space left giving you a total of 6 brackets for this project.
- For a countertop overhang spanning 84" wide with 2 brackets set in 4" from either side and a 16" span between brackets, you would order 6 brackets total. 2 end brackets and 4 to support the remaining 76" span.

Fresh, exciting, energizing insights on Romans
I was delightfully surprised by the fresh insights of deep significance that Gaventa uncovers in the book of Romans, of all things--that book about which so, so much has already been written. She helps the reader approach the letter's themes as if one were reading it for the first time with 1st-century lenses, and in the process expands and reorients the reader's understanding of salvation, and the question of why Paul is even writing in the first place. The 21st-century repercussions of what Gaventa presents here would take another volume, but she does at points connect some of these dots herself. One notable reason why Gaventa's reading seems so fresh is that while it touches on them very briefly, but doesn't dwell on so many of the recurrent topics in recent discussions on Paul, such as "faith/fulness of Christ" or "works of the law" or "righteousness/justice of God." She simply helps focus attention on what to keep in mind when reading Romans in order to understand what is happening in and through its complex arguments. And I couldn't put it down until I finished. Although I would otherwise say we need another Romans commentary like we need rocks in our shoes, it offers much promise that Gaventa's big commentary which she is producing might very well revolutionize our understanding of aspects of Romans, and perhaps even Paul in general. At the very least, if it expands on what she has already given us in this slim volume, it will absolutely reenergize our engagement with this part of the New Testament.

Not Your Typical Biblical Commentary
Format: Kindle
This is more like a sermon than a commentary as most people would expect commentaries to be. It examines the Book of Romans thematically, as the themes run throughout the book, illustrating the themes with popular culture and contextualized in contemporary church struggles. If you are expecting the chapter by chapter and verse by verse exegesis, you will not find it here. What you will find is helpful lens with which to understand the epistle.

Confusion can be a good thing.

Finally a scholarship who admits to being unable to fully understand Paul's reasoning. For years I've read portions that seem to be in conflict and indeed they are. A great survey of Romans.

Very Good - But Conclusion Derails
Format: Paperback
Gaventa wrote an intriguing introduction to the book of Romans.
She begins by setting up what we can know about the setting, and likewise critiques some overreach in some other treatments.
The chapters which traces significant themes of sin/salvation; righteousness; worship; community; and the Jewish problem throughout the book. The threads she knits together move past the simplistic, and are convincing.
Where she loses me is in the conclusion. Her argument that "all" is necessarily universal as it stretches to salvation seems to ignore much of what Paul himself wrote in Romans.
Yes, sin is universal. Salvation is universally available. But universal availability doesn't suggest universal application.
