The Suntastic Pink Abelia is a marvel in the gardening world with its compact, semi-evergreen nature and a striking blend of crimson stems, intricately variegated leaves and pristine white tubular flowers. Originating from the renowned Kaleidoscope Abelia, this cultivar continues the legacy of elegance and beauty.

When these abelia shrubs mature, they achieve a neatly compact structure, spanning dimensions of approximately 2 - 3′ x 3 - 5′, and maintain a graceful silhouette all year round. The shrub is adorned with fragrant white tubular blooms during the transition from mid-summer to fall.

During the warm season, its leaves are variegated cream-yellow and green shades flushed with pink. Then, with cooler temperatures in fall, the leaves begin turning pink, slowly intensifying to a flamingo pink once winter sets in. A notable distinction of the 'Pink' compared to other white variegated Abelias is its minimal production of those often-annoying water shoots. Whether you envision it as a standout specimen, clustered informally as a hedge, or even elegantly positioned within a container, the Suntastic Pink is a superior choice.

Abelia shrubs pair perfectly with a wide variety of small trees such as:

Due to their long blooming periods, Abelias are a great choice for gardeners looking to attract pollinators. Bees, butterflies, and birds are all lovers of the tubular flowers and just can't get enough. Moreover, the low-maintenance nature of Abelias, combined with their resilience against pests and diseases, further accentuates their appeal to garden enthusiasts globally.

Suntastic Pink Abelia Shrub Care

Pink Abelia Sunlight Requirements

Ideally, Abelia 'Pink' prefers full sun, meaning it should receive at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight daily. This ensures the plant produces abundant flowers and maintains its vibrant variegated foliage.

Abelia 'Pink' can also thrive in partial shade, especially in regions with intense summer heat. Some afternoon shade can help protect the plant from excessive stress and potential sunburn in such conditions.

When planting Abelia 'Pink' or any other variety, it's crucial to consider the specific sunlight conditions of your region and garden. Positioning the plant in a location that receives more sunlight might be ideal in locations with mild summers. In contrast, in hot climates, a location that offers some afternoon shade would benefit the plant's health and appearance.

Pruning Suntastic Pink Abelia

Pruning the Suntastic Pink Abelia helps to maintain its compact form, encourage new growth, and improve the overall health and appearance of the plant. Here are some steps and tips for pruning this particular variety:

  1. When to Prune: The best time to prune Abelia 'Pink' is in late winter to early spring, before new growth begins. This timing ensures you don't remove the upcoming season's blooms.
  2. Deadheading: Throughout the blooming season, you can remove spent flowers to encourage continued blooming.
  3. Shape and Size: Begin by cutting out any dead or damaged branches. Then, shape the shrub according to your preference. If necessary, you can reduce its size by cutting back up to one-third of the plant. Pruning can also help the plant maintain a more rounded and compact form.

Are Abelia Shrubs Cold Hardy?

Typically, this plant thrives in USDA hardiness zones 6 through 10. Its semi-evergreen nature means that in milder winters or in the warmer end of its hardiness range, the Abelia retains much of its foliage, offering year-round interest. However, in the colder extremes of its zone range, some foliage may be shed.

Watering Abelia Shrubs

Newly planted Suntastic Pink Abelia needs regular watering to establish its root system. Water deeply once or twice a week, depending on the weather and soil type. Once established, the Abelia is drought-tolerant to some extent. However, regular watering still benefits, especially during dry spells. Deep watering every 1-2 weeks is usually sufficient.

While Abelia 'Pink' can handle occasional drought, it's crucial to avoid letting the soil dry out completely for prolonged periods. At the same time, avoid overwatering, as soggy soil can lead to root rot. Well-draining soil helps mitigate this risk.

NOT for Aggressive Chewers.
Flavor Name: Bacon Flavored, Size: Medium/Large-under 60LBS, Flavor Name: Bacon Flavored, Size: Medium/Large-under 60LBS
I received 2 of these on May 6th and gave 1 to my Golden retriever then gave my Miniature Heeler the second 2 days ago on May 10th. This image is taken on May 12th. It’s too soft to be labeled for Aggressive chewers because with other bones I have previously purchased the bones have been lasting forever. Which has me concerned about how much plastic-like material they’re consuming. I don’t recommend this one for Aggressive or even Moderate chewers.

JoviQ Dog Chew Toys for Aggressive Chewers
Flavor Name: Bacon-2Pcs, Size: Medium/Large-under 60LBS
These dog chews have been some of my dogs favorites for a few weeks now! They've managed to work a whole end off the t-bone already which is a bit surprising, usually these types of bones take them much longer to make that much 'progress' on so I think these are a bit on the softer side as far as plastic bones go! Otherwise they've worked well for my must-chew-everything dogs and haven't caused any problems (I fully expect them to eat small bits of plastic with these but its that or the walls and carpet so..)
