About the work

Mary Ramsden’s paintings explore the space between virtual images and the object. Usings rags and brushes as well as her own hands, she produces marks and textures that allude to the cropping and zooming methods of a digital operator and the swipe action that activates a smart phone. For her edition for the Whitechapel Gallery Ramsden has made a single gesture or ‘swipe’ directly onto the copper etching plate, which has then been printed to create a varied edition of 35 sugar lift aquatints.
This edition was produced to accompany Ramsden’s paintings on display in The London Open 2015, the Whitechapel Gallery’s triennial open submission exhibition, from 15 July–6 September 2015.

About the artist

British artist Mary Ramsden was born in 1984, and has studied at the Royal Academy, London, Edinburgh College of Art and Leith School of Art, Edinburgh. Her works are known for being “unapologetically painterly” but are always abstract in composition and strategic in refusal of referential readings. A sense of simplicity and compositional unity belies the complexity of their making. Ramsden decisively applies layers of paint using brushes and rags as well as her own hands, but subsequently wipes them away to create gradual build up of repetitive layers through the conflicting actions of doing and undoing. The artist’s gesture takes centre stage, but not only the energised swing of the arm but the aftermath of the action.

Why do people hate on Matcha? This was insanely good!
Flavor Name: Ceremonial Barista, Size: 2.65 oz
So I'll start by saying I am new to matcha. I decided to try it after hearing about it's health/nutritional benefits but I was wary because so many people I know who have tried matcha did not like it, saying it was like drinking grass. My experience was the opposite of that and WONDERFUL! This matcha was incredibly tasty and blended really well. I thoroughly enjoyed it and plan to make this every day. Sidenote: because I had no idea how to prepare it, I watched a video on youtube to make sure I was doing it right and I am so glad I did. If you're wondering it's Michelle Kanemitsu's channel . I will definitely buy this again!

Smooth, fresh and delicious
Flavor Name: All Purpose Culinary Grade Matcha, Flavor Name: All Purpose Culinary Grade Matcha
I’ve tried a few matcha powders before, and this one is honestly one of my favorites. The flavor is smooth, fresh, and not too bitter. It mixes really well and gives that pretty vibrant green color. I’ve been making iced matcha lattes with it almost every day. Great quality for the price and definitely worth trying if you love matcha.

Tasty good quality matcha
Flavor Name: All Purpose Culinary Grade Matcha
Great tasting matcha! I usually order matcha from the famous us coffee shop but this one tastes even better and is wayy cheaper (vs paying per cup). I can make frozen matcha drinks or have it with a sweetener, ice and milk (chef's kiss). I also feel good knowing that it has great health benefits and I like the fact that it doesn't come sweetened so I can add berries or a sweetener. It's not too bitter like some other matchas are and it gives that earthy taste you look for in matcha. Very delicious 10/10.

Yum!
Flavor Name: All Purpose Culinary Grade Matcha
I have zero complaints, the size is ideal considering you don’t need very much for a drink and the flavor is amazing and exactly what I expected, I prefer this to Starbucks as I feel it is a bit sweeter! Blends beautifully great quality and honestly on the cheaper size of what I’ve seen! Good value
