Feeding & Storage Instructions

Feeding:
Caution: The correct feeding technique must be used in order to prevent injury to the bird or inhalation of the formula that could result in pneumonia or death.

SPECIES: From day 1 for pionus, African greys, Amazons, cockatoos, conures and macaws. From day 7 for other parrots. From day 21 for cockatiels.

Step 1: Gently feel the crop to determine that it is almost empty before feeding.

Step 2: Mix fresh: Juvenile Hand-Feeding Formula and bottled "drinking water" heated to approximately 103°F (39°C). Follow proportion of formula to water as directed by your avian veterinarian for the age of your bird. Do not microwave. Allow to cool to lukewarm. Chicks with their eyes opened should be fed 3-4 times daily, and birds with feathers emerging, 2-3 times daily.

Step 3: Feeding with an irrigation syringe is probably the most universally successful technique. As one faces the bird, position the syringe to enter the oral cavity from the left side of the bird's beak and direct it toward the right side of the bird's neck. Deposit the food into the bird's mouth and, as it swallows, the normal feeding response closes off the trachea and prevents aspiration of the formula into the lungs.

Step 4: Feed the bird until the crop is full but not overstuffed, and clean the excess formula from the bird's beak, feathers and enclosure.

DAY 1: 1 part Juvenile Formula to  6 parts water
DAYS 2 - 6: 1 part Juvenile Formula to 3 parts water
DAY 7: till weaning: 1 part Juvenile Formula to 2 parts water

Daily Feeding Amounts:
One-to seven-day-old birds and birds with slow crop-emptying may benefit from adding a pinch of Fauna Flora to the Formula just prior to feeding.
To aid weaning after 21 days of age, add 1 tbs finely chopped High Potency Formula or finely chopped organic nuts to 1 cup of Formula or introduce dry High Potency Formula in a separate bowl.

Storage:
Harrison's Bird Foods do not contain artificial preservatives.
Do not repackage into other containers. Squeeze air out of bag, seal and store. If zip becomes damaged, roll bag down and clip shut with chip clip or clothespin.
Once opened, a bag of Harrison's should be used up within 8 weeks.
Storing food in fridge or freezer helps maintain freshness.

If you like Dick Grayson, you must read this.
Format: Kindle
The title says it all. Mandatory reading for any Dick fan. And the art by Nguyen is mesmerizingly atmospheric. Really unique feel and brilliant sensitive writing by Lemire. Really great tease with Killer Croc as well. All around fantastic.

Why the revisionism?
Format: Paperback
I kinda want to give this a try but I dislike that the artist chose to change Robin's costume. What is this? Dick Grayson Robin always wore the same costume, so why is a "throwback" story using new uniforms? (Batman's is also not quite the original.) I guess modern readers just think the classic togs are "silly," but that's on them. Respect the material, comics creators! Or leave it alone.

Simply magnificent
Format: Kindle
A new perspective on an old and familiar story. The art is outstanding. The story is compelling. It needs to be a regular ongoing series. DC...please handle this. Thanks.
