  • HISTORY ASPECTS:
  • The McDonnell Douglas F-4D Phantom II was an improved U.S. Air Force variant of the iconic twin-engine fighter, featuring upgraded avionics, improved radar systems, and expanded weapons compatibility over earlier models. Designed for both air superiority and ground-attack missions, the F-4D retained the Phantom’s powerful J79 engines and impressive speed, allowing it to exceed Mach 2 while carrying a substantial combat payload. Throughout the Cold War, the F-4D served as a versatile and dependable platform within active-duty, Air National Guard, and reserve units.
  • Aircraft 65-0608 operated with the 148th Fighter-Interceptor Group (FIG) of the Minnesota Air National Guard at Duluth International Airport. By 1984, the 148th FIG’s primary mission centered on air defense of the northern United States under the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) structure. From Duluth, F-4D crews maintained alert status, ready to scramble at a moment’s notice to intercept unidentified or non-communicating aircraft approaching U.S. airspace. Positioned strategically near the Canadian border and key Great Lakes region, the unit played a critical role in Cold War homeland defense, frequently conducting intercept exercises and large-scale readiness drills in challenging Midwestern weather conditions.
  • Earlier in its operational career, the F-4D variant saw extensive combat service during the Vietnam War. USAF F-4Ds participated in major operations such as Rolling Thunder and Linebacker, flying air-to-air engagements against North Vietnamese MiGs as well as strike and close air support missions. The combat experience gained in Southeast Asia influenced later training doctrine within Air National Guard interceptor units, including the 148th FIG. Although 65-0608 primarily served in a stateside air defense role during the 1980s, it represented a combat-proven aircraft type whose legacy was forged in one of the most demanding aerial conflicts of the twentieth century.
  • This 1:72 scale model faithfully captures the imposing Cold War presence of Duluth’s air defenders, offering collectors a detailed tribute to the Phantom’s dual legacy of Vietnam combat and NORAD homeland protection.

Budget friendly and useful!
Color: Black, Color: Black
Light weight affordable and still nice. Could be a little bit heavier at the base, I really like it so far. Seems pretty sturdy, definitely will need to check in to see the longevity of the product. Overall good budget buy.

Use for canning rings
Color: Black
I bought this to hold my canning rings and it worked great. The smaller arm holds my wide mouth rings and the larger one holds the regular ones. When I’m canning, I’m able to move the whole thing into the kitchen due to its light weight and use what I need. Once I’m done with the rings, back they go.
