One of Disney's most iconic villainesses, the evil enchantress Maleficent, steps out of the shadows in this elegant rough animation drawing. Produced over 65 years ago, Maleficent's animation was directed by Disney Legend and member of "Walt's Nine Old Men", Marc Davis. A true visionary in animation and design, Walt Disney himself praised Davis, calling him a "Renaissance man" for his ability to master story, character, animation, and show design. As a key drawing, noted by the circled 45 in the bottom right corner, this drawing was likely by Marc's hand. Masterfully rendered in graphite on 16-field animation paper. Wielding her magic staff, this drawing bears resemblance to a preliminary version of the sequence seen near the 1:02:13 timestamp of the film as she approaches the captured Prince. This remarkable piece also features detailed production notes including a timing chart and a note regarding the animation of her staff. The drawing shows normal age-related toning, handling wear including superficial wrinkles to the left side of the page, and edge wear.
