The Caol Ila Distillery was founded by Hector Henderson in 1846, but it was unsuccessful and got taken over by Norman Buchanan, proprietor of the Isle of Jura Distillery, in 1854.
Caol Ila is widely used as an ingredient in the Johnnie Walker Black bottle, in addition to its reputation as an Islay single malt.
Tasting Notes
Color: Pale straw gold
Nose: Fresh, rich, smokey and intense with toffee & floral notes
Palate: Light-textured with vanilla & pear
Finish: A lengthy, peppery smoke with a spicy warmth
