It was introduced to the world in 1950 by our founder Don Francisco Javier Sauza in honor of Mexican Independence Day. Don Franco was determined to bring tequila to a new height of respect and renown. He introduced the process of using 10,000 gallon oak barrels called pipones to serve as aging vessels for his fine tequila.

Don Franco was determined to bring tequila to a new height of respect and renown. He introduced the process of using 10,000 gallon oak barrels called pipones to serve as aging vessels for his fine tequila. The pipones give the tequila less contact with the wood, bringing out a pure agave flavor and a delicate pale gold color unique to the Hornitos Reposado.

Today, Hornitos only produces premium, double-distilled tequilas made from 100% blue agave. The Reposado is rested for two months in 10,000 gallon oak vats to ensure minimal contact with the wood, giving it a livelier agave taste than most wood-treated tequilas. This pale straw colored tequila has fine floral and agave aromas with hints of herbs and green apple. The medium to full-bodied spirit has a smooth, mature character with woody notes balancing agave, apple, and herbal flavors before a warm, distinctly smoky finish.
