"Smith's powerful style of living journalism uses the collective, cathartic nature of the theater to move us from despair toward hope." --The Village Voice Anna Deavere Smith's extraordinary form of documentary theater shines a light on injustices by portraying the real-life people who have experienced them. "One of her most ambitious and powerful works on how matters of race continue to divide and enslave the nation" (Variety). Smith renders a host of figures who have lived and fought the system that pushes students of color out of the classroom and into prisons. (As Smith has put it: "Rich kids get mischief, poor kids get pathologized and incarcerated.") Using people's own words, culled from interviews and speeches, Smith depicts Rev. Jamal Harrison Bryant, who eulogized Freddie Gray; Niya Kenny, a high school student who confronted a violent police deputy; activist Bree Newsome, who took the Confederate flag down from the South Carolina State House grounds; and many others. Their voices bear powerful witness to a great iniquity of our time--and call us to action with their accounts of resistance and hope.Binding Type: Paperback

Great "Preppy" Upgrade for a Casual Wardrobe
Size: 11, Color: White
I am very happy with these Bruno Marc Men's Casual Dress Sneakers. I’ve worn them about 10 times now, and here is my experience so far:
Style & Versatility: These are the perfect "middle ground" shoe. They go great with both jeans and chinos for those nights when you want to look a bit more put-together than a standard pair of regular sneakers.
The "Wife Test": My wife immediately noticed the difference; she mentioned that these give off a much more "preppy" and dressed-up vibe compared to my usual Nike sneakers. I’ve actually received compliments every single time I’ve worn them out.
Comfort & Quality: They are surprisingly comfortable right out of the box. The material looks and feels like high quality, not cheap or flimsy.
Durability: While I can’t fully attest to their long-term longevity yet since I've only worn them 10 times, the construction feels solid and the material seems durable.
I’ll be sure to update this review if anything changes regarding how they wear over time, but for now, these are a fantastic purchase for the price.

Comfortable, clean white sneakers for any age (I hope)
Size: 13, Color: White, Size: 13, Color: White
Comfortable, clean, and make me look cooler than I actually am
These Bruno Marc white sneakers are my attempt at staying “casually stylish” at 50 without embarrassing my kids or trying too hard. Good news: they’re insanely comfortable right out of the box, fit true to size (13 for the win), and somehow stay bright white no matter what I do. Bad news: they might actually be too white. I keep waiting for them to age a little so I look like a laid-back dad, not a dad who just walked off a mall mannequin stand.
They’re lightweight, cushioned enough for all-day wear, and pair with everything—from jeans to the “I give up” shorts I wear on weekends. Still not sure if I’m cool enough to pull them off, but they make me feel like I might be… which is basically the whole point, right?

Affordable shoes that actually hold up
Size: 8, Color: White
I bought these for my son to wear to a quinceañera since he needed plain white shoes and I didn’t want to spend much for a one-time event.
They ended up being his favorite pair. He’s worn them to school several times a week for the past 7 months, and they’ve held up really well. There’s some normal wear, but they still look good and he says they’re comfortable.
I’m pleasantly surprised by the quality for the price and will likely buy another pair soon.
