Handmade Damascus Folding Knife with Camel Bone Handle

This handmade Damascus steel folding knife by JW SteelCrafts is crafted for everyday carry, outdoor use, and serious collectors. Each blade is individually hand-forged from high-quality Damascus steel, producing a naturally layered pattern with excellent edge retention and long-term durability.

This handmade Damascus folding knife opens with a nail-nick and the back lock clicks firm at 3 inches of layered Damascus blade. The camel bone handle sits warm and solid in a bare hand, with a texture no composite material reproduces. Set the edge against your thumbnail and it bites at the first angle. At 6.5 inches overall, this is a knife built to be carried.

The Blade

The blade is hand-forged Damascus steel with a naturally layered wave pattern that runs the full length of the flat. Each blade develops its own pattern during forging. No two look the same. The 3-inch blade opens via a traditional nail-nick, a detail that distinguishes hand-finished folders from production pieces. The spine carries decorative hand-cut file work. The edge ships sharp and the layered Damascus structure holds that sharpness longer than a machine-stamped blade of the same geometry.

The Handle

The primary handle option is natural camel bone, which shows the cream-to-tan color variation and fine surface texture visible in the image. The bone is reinforced with steel pins through the full grip length and finished with a solid steel bolster at the blade end. Four additional handle materials are available at checkout: Red Pakka Wood, Green Pakka Wood, Blue Pakka Wood, and Dark Wood. All five options share the same blade, bolster, and back-lock construction. The camel bone sits warm under a bare hand and steady in a gloved hand.

The Build

The back-lock mechanism holds the blade open and releases from the spine with your thumb, without a grip change. At 6.5 inches overall, the knife closes to a compact, pocket-friendly profile. The steel bolster shifts the balance point near the pivot and keeps the tip controlled on detail cuts. The 3-inch blade-to-handle ratio gives the knife a strong working feel without adding carry bulk.

The Sheath

A hand-stitched genuine leather sheath is included with every knife. The dark brown leather carries the embossed JW SteelCrafts mark and closes with a snap button. It protects the blade edge during storage and carry. Wear it on a belt or drop it in a bag pocket.

Real-World Use

This knife performs best at controlled, single-direction cutting tasks: opening packages, trimming cordage, food prep at camp, cleaning birds in the field, and light outdoor work. The daily carry user who wants a Damascus folder with a natural bone handle instead of a synthetic grip. The hunter who needs a compact backup blade that fits a vest pocket and locks positive. The collector who wants a working knife with five handle options to choose between. Hand-forging builds a layered edge structure that outlasts a production stamp between sharpenings.

The JW Difference

Every knife is hand-forged individually. Damascus pattern, bone grain, and coloration will vary between pieces. That is part of the handcraft. Orders ship from the USA within 1 to 2 business days. Free shipping applies on all orders over $100.

Who Is This For

  • The daily carry user who wants a 3-inch Damascus folder with a natural bone handle that fits any pocket and holds an edge through a full workday.
  • The hunter or camper who needs a compact, reliable back-lock blade for bird cleaning, food prep, and light field tasks.
  • The knife collector who wants to choose between five handle materials on the same blade, from natural camel bone to colored Pakka wood.
  • The gift buyer who needs a handmade Damascus knife with strong natural material appeal for Father's Day, Christmas, a retirement, or a groomsman gift.

How to Use It

Hold the handle with your fingers wrapped around the camel bone scales and your thumb resting on the spine file work. Use the nail-nick to open the blade with your opposite hand until the back lock clicks into place. Use a straight push-cut for rope and packaging tasks. Use a controlled draw-cut for camp food prep and light field work. Close the blade fully before returning the knife to its sheath.

How to Care for It

After Every Use

  • Hand wash the blade with warm water and mild soap.

  • Dry the blade and camel bone handle immediately with a clean, dry cloth.

  • Do not put this knife in a dishwasher. Heat and detergent damage the Damascus pattern and the bone handle.

Every Few Weeks

  • Apply a thin, even coat of food-safe mineral oil to the blade surface.

  • Wipe away any excess oil with a dry cloth before storing.

Storage

  • Store the knife in its leather sheath when not in active use.

  • Keep in a dry location away from humidity and direct heat sources.

Sharpening

  • Use a whetstone or a fine ceramic rod.

  • Maintain the original bevel angle and work edge-leading in one direction.

  • Finish with a few passes on a leather strop to realign the edge.

FAQs

What steel is the blade made from?

The blade is hand-forged Damascus steel. Damascus is made by folding and welding multiple steel layers under a hammer. The process creates a naturally layered wave pattern unique to each blade and builds an edge structure that holds sharpness well through regular use.

Is every knife unique?

Yes. Every Damascus blade develops a one-of-a-kind pattern during the hand-forging process. Camel bone grain and coloration will also vary naturally between pieces.

Can I choose a different handle material?

Yes. Five handle options are available at checkout: Camel Bone (Natural), Red Pakka Wood, Green Pakka Wood, Blue Pakka Wood, and Dark Wood. The blade, lock, bolster, and sheath are the same across all five.

Does the knife come with a sheath?

Yes. A hand-stitched genuine leather sheath is included with every knife at no extra cost.

Is this knife legal to carry in the US?

Folding knives are permitted in most US states, but laws vary by state, county, and city. Always check your local knife laws before carrying any blade in public.

How do I sharpen a Damascus folding knife?

Use a whetstone or a fine ceramic rod. Hold the original bevel angle and work edge-leading in one direction. Follow with a few passes on a leather strop to realign the micro-teeth on the edge.

How long will this knife last?

Damascus steel is a durable hand-forged material. With regular hand washing, immediate drying, and periodic oiling, the blade holds its edge and retains its Damascus pattern for years of regular use. The camel bone handle resists wear well under normal carry conditions.

Is this a good gift?

Yes. The Damascus blade, natural camel bone handle, and five handle options make it easy to personalize. The hand-stitched leather sheath finishes the presentation. It suits collectors, hunters, outdoor users, and anyone who carries handmade tools.

Gift Ideas

This Damascus folding knife is a strong pick for Father's Day, a Christmas gift, a retirement send-off, or a groomsman knife that gets used instead of stored. Quality product
Color: Navy, Size: 6-Quart
I absolutely LOVE my Dutch oven! The reduced cooking time for certain cuts of meat for stews, pot roast, etc., is a definite game changer!! The meat comes out so juicy and tender. I made curry and did the "burning" of the curry and was hesitant because I didn't want the pot to be stained. There were no stains left at all. I've used it numerous times since purchasing and it still looks new. It's very durable and the color is beautiful. If you're looking for a functional, quality, and durable Dutch oven without breaking the bank, this is it! I highly recommend.

Nothing Exceptional but Gets the Job Done
Color: Blue, Size: 4.3-Quart, Color: Blue, Size: 4.3-Quart
I’ve owned this 4.5 Qt. Amazon Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven for almost two months and have used it three times to date. Upon arrival and at first glance, the gradient blue color is beautiful and super glossy; most importantly, the pot is heavy for its size - as it should be. It looks exactly like the product pictures, with a globular shape than square shape as others. Unfortunately, I also noticed that there was one pin hole and two tiny uneven protrusions on the enamel inside the pot. I own three other enameled cast iron cookware from two other brands (photos attached for size comparison) and performance wise, this cast iron by Amazon performs equally to them. The pot isn’t exceptional or special but it gets the job done. Other than the pin holes and protrusions, I have no complaints. This isn’t my first rodeo so when heating up the pot and while cooking, I have zero issues. I am starting the pan off at 4-Stars and will update my review as time progresses, or if I have any major issues with its durability or performance in subsequent months. For the amateur home cook, or for anyone who is new to cast iron cooking, below I’ve included tips that you may find useful while using this or any other enameled cast iron cookware. ================================ Regarding the 3 Photos and 1 video I've Attached: (Note: all photos were taken with an iPhone under kitchen lights during the evening. Photos have not been edited nor enhanced.) Photo 1: Size comparison of this Amazon Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven compared to three other enameled cast iron cookware that I own from two other brands. From left to right: 7 qt. Tramontina, 4.5 qt. Amazon, 3 qt. Lodge 4 qt. Tramontina. Photos 2 and 3: fresh produce shown next to 4.5qt Amazon Dutch Oven for color and size contrast. Video: 4.5 qt. Amazon Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven on gas stove over medium heat, with food cooking. ================================ TIPS THAT YOU MAY FIND USEFUL While Using your cast iron dutch oven: (Note: I included these similar tips in my review of a different enameled cast iron pot from a different brand. My tips can apply to all enameled cast iron cookware) 1. If you find that you have issues with food sticking, it could be that you are not heating up your cast iron pot properly to prevent undue hot spots. I heat my pot up gradually starting at low, then medium, then high heat. After my pot is very hot is when I add my fat/cooking oil. As the oil is heating up in the pot, I lift it and swirl the oil around to coat all sides of the pot that will come in contact with food. 2. Take into consideration the temperature of the items you are adding to your heated pot. As a general rule for cooking: when ever possible, ensure that the items you are adding to a hot pot are at room temperature, rather than ice cold from the fridge; this will assist with even cooking. 3. Also, get comfortable with adjusting your heat by lowering and raising it based on what you’ve added to the pot. In general, you will need more heat at the beginning of the cooking process, and less heat towards the end. If you cook by recipe, I highly recommend that you read all the steps ahead before starting, so that you become familiarized with all the procedures, allowing you to maneuver accordingly when you start cooking. 4. At the exception of searing meat to achieve a brown crust, deep frying, or when caramelizing onions, you should be stirring your pot (I recommend using a wooden spoon) every few minutes when cooking in cast iron that is placed over high heat. If you are braising on the stove at low heat versus braising in the oven, the frequency of your stirring will need to be adjusted. No matter how you’re cooking though, a watchful eye on the pot plus stirring, should both be a habit not an afterthought. 5. For all cooking vessels in general but especially for cast iron: after cooking, allow your pot to cool down completely before cleaning. NEVER immerse a hot cast iron pot into cold water, nor pour cold dish water into hot pot. You risk not only being scald by dangerous steam, but you also risk weakening the enamel, therefore lessening the durability of your pots over time. 6. This cookware and others like it from Tramontina and Lodge are economical and if used correctly, will perform well for most cooking; if used correctly, they should also last for years. Nonetheless, if you can afford it, authentic enameled cast iron cookware made in France by Le Creuset is the best way to go. Le Creuset is the gold standard in cast iron cookware and their quality is second to none. I definitely recommend this Amazon dutch oven but if you can afford to splurge, Le Creuset's reputation is stellar. As a professional chef, I've used them in high end kitchens and their quality and performance is premier.

Nice BIG enameled cast iron dutch oven. like LeCreuset but costs less
Color: Blue, Size: 6-Quart
This is nice quality, similar to the far more costly French LeCreuset brand. I was surprised how big this model is, possibly too big for my small kitchen and limited storage space. I store it in the oven. It would be great for baking sourdough boule bread.
