Standing over a metre tall, this massive bird has a wingspan of up to 2.2 metres and weighs up to 5 kilograms. Known for soaring high on thermal air currents, where it sights its prey before sweeping down on small mammals and carrion in a long swoop, the Wedge-tailed Eagle has an average lifespan in the wild of 6 years, with an average lifespan in captivity of 26 years.
