The Cleveland class was planned as a mass-produced light cruiser with an expected production of 52 ships during WWII, however, only 27 ships were completed by the end of the war. The Cleveland was completed in June of 1942 and assigned to the Pacific theater. She sank destroyers Minegumo and Murasame, and took part in various landing operations.
