Eight solid brass oil cups with pegs soldered on their bottom, fit snugly in holes drilled in the top of the large wood abacus. The shamash, created from a repurposed copper doll's pitcher, is removable to use for lighting the wicks in each cup. An elaborate embossed copper strip decorates both the abacus top and the menorah's bamboo base.
Fill the cups with any kitchen vegetable oil and light the wicks that have been cut from a ball of cotton twine. At the end of the holiday, remove the oil cups and wash in warm soapy water. No messy wax cleanup!
