As with Saigon Supersound Vol. 1, (SSS 001CD/LP, 2017) this new volume digs deeper to share the beautiful music of a short but significant period in Vietnam's history. Much like the country itself, the music of Vietnam has endured many twists. As the result of the Geneva Accords in 1954, Vietnam was divided into two. From the North, the Nationalist forces fought to reunite Vietnam as a Communist state, while American troops backed the government of the South. This caused a mass migration of Northerners to the South, which included many Tân Nhạc (modern music) singers and songwriters. Tân Nhạc continued to develop in the South, moving on from the influences of it's main inspiration, French music. In the North, the Resistance music, the so-called Nhạc Đỏ (Red Music), promoted socialism, patriotism and anti-capitalism and was the only genre allowed on national radio. Between 1954-1960, the theme of (quê hương), or hometown, was a main inspiration for many songwriters such as Hoàng Thi Thơ, Lam Phương and Nguyễn Hữu Thiết. The 9th track on the compilation, "Thôn Trăng Mở Hội Trăng Tròn" showcases a variety of images often described in this genre: the harvest moon, playful children, an old mother. Every recording made in this era is then an organic combination of human experiences, communications and uniqueness. In 1965, the first American troops landed in Vietnam, bringing with them the musical influences of the likes of Beatles, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, and Elvis Presley. The Vietnamese people quickly integrated it into the repertoire with the hope of further diversifying the music of Vietnam. Constantly changing and learning from different cultures, the modern music of Vietnam cuts a window into the soul of a Vietnamese person and the country's history as a whole. With that, the hope is that Saigon Supersound Vol. 2 would take you on a trip back to the unique atmosphere of Saigon through the different palettes of music that this beautiful place offers. Jewel of my occult studies library
Format: Hardcover
Excellent academic translation of an ancient Latin text. If you are a student of occult history, this is the book you want. If you are a practicing magician, maybe not so much. This book made me a fan of Dan Attrell’s no-nonsense approach to magical history. No vague implications of wisdom from before recorded history here, just translation from actual historical text.

Excellent book, but NO chapters between books in the index

Excellent book, with a complete introduction that covers different points of view of the creation of such work of art, it can be seen that it was translated with a team of high academic preparation and knowledge on the subject. It was translated with a lot of precision, respect, professionalism and with much seriousness to the subject. The book is made with high quality and its pages are quite thick. The only mistake that I could notice and it is difficult for me not to be upset, is that they created the index and left out the chapters of each book. For me it is a gross error in comparison with other versions. It's the reason why I could not give 5 stars.

A much needed translation that turned out beautifully
Format: Hardcover
Two things make this translation of the Picatrix a must have for any fan of the work. First, it has an index, and it's a really nice index that is fairly complete. Second, the paragraphs are numbered, so we can refer to things as being mentioned in Picatrix 3.4.1, and then somebody else can go look it up and say, "Ha ha, good one." The translation seems to be really solid, too. It's a great edition.
