Honest Jon's Records present a reissue of Jamie Muir and Derek Bailey's 1981 duo album, Dart Drug, originally released on Bailey's Incus label. Percussionist Jamie Muir was a member of King Crimson during the recording of Larks' Tongues In Aspic, in 1973. Staying less than a year with Robert Fripp, the Scot had already cut his teeth with another master guitarist, Derek Bailey, as part of the Music Improvisation Company, along with Evan Parker, Hugh Davies and Christine Jeffrey. There's no shortage of great percussionists in the brief history of free improvised music but on the strength of Dart Drug alone Jamie Muir deserves among them. Unlike for example Han Bennink and John Stevens, though, you can't hear echoes of any particular jazz drummer in Muir's playing, even if he has expressed appreciation for Milford Graves. What on earth did Muir's kit consist of? Some instruments are clearly identifiable (bells, gongs, chimes, woodblocks), while others could be anything. Old suitcases thwacked with rolled up newspapers? Tin cans and hubcaps inside a washing machine? Who cares? It sounds terrific, but if you're the kind of person who faints at the sound of nails scraping a blackboard, you might want to nip out and put the kettle on towards the end of the title track. Dart Drug is consistently thrilling, and often amusing, but it's certainly not easy listening. In music we talk about playing with other musicians, whereas in sport you play against another opponent (or with your team against another team). Why not play against in music, too? That's often precisely what happens in improvised music, and Bailey was particularly good at it. How can a humble acoustic guitar hope to compete with Muir in full flight? Sometimes Bailey's content to sit on those open strings, teasing out yet another exquisite Webernian constellation of ringing harmonics and wait for the dust to settle in Muir's junkyard, but elsewhere he sets off into uncharted territory himself. "The way to discover the undiscovered in performing terms is to immediately reject all situations as you identify them (the cloud of unknowing) which is to give music a future," Bailey evidently concurred with this spoken statement by Muir, including it in his book Improvisation (1980). Derek Bailey is no longer with us, of course, and Muir gave up performing music back in 1989; all the more reason for seeking out this magnificent, wild album.

Tastes great, works great
I love this toothpaste! I’m so happy to have a toothpaste that isn’t mint-flavored.
FLAVOR: The taste and smell are so good — the coco ginger flavor is delicious and I legitimately look forward to the taste of it. I was worried that the ginger might be strong/spicy, but it’s nicely balanced. The lavender lemon flavor is also pretty good, like a lemon pastry. The elamint flavor tastes like regular mint toothpaste, just maybe slightly more herbal.
SENSITIVITY: I’ve had to use sensitive toothpaste for many years. Any time I switched off it, I would start experiencing sensitivity again within a week or so. I’m really happy to report that this toothpaste offers great sensitivity and enamel protection.
WHITENING: I don’t feel that this toothpaste is contributing much in terms of whitening. My previous toothpaste had gentle whitening, and I do feel like I could tell it was working. While my teeth haven’t gotten less white since I switched to Boka, I don’t think they’ve gotten any whiter either. That’s okay with me — the flavor and sensitivity protection are worth it, and I can always do a whitening treatment in the future if I ever feel I need to.
TEXTURE: The texture is just like normal toothpaste and brushing with it feels the same as any other toothpaste. It works great with both my manual toothbrush and my electric toothbrush.
TUBE: The tube is really nice and sturdy. I like the design of the tube a lot. The text and color scheme are fairly minimalist, and I like that the cap has a wide base so the tube can stand upright. It looks nice on my bathroom shelf. My only small complaint is that it gets harder and harder to squeeze the toothpaste out once the tube is less than half full. Since the tube is so sturdy, it can’t be rolled and folded to get the paste out. I think this issue could probably be resolved easily with one of those squeezing tools, though. I’ll report back if I try it.
SIZES: I love that it’s available in both a regular size and a little travel size. I also loved that the travel size allowed me to try out this toothpaste before committing to a whole large one. (Don’t worry, the tube in my photos was full when it arrived! I’ve used half of it.)
Overall I highly recommend this toothpaste! I will absolutely buy it again.

Taste Great
This is a great tasting all natural toothpaste that actually does what it claims. My teeth feel so clean and fresh after brushing and the whitening is immediately noticeable, something that caught me by surprise. It's super easy to use and functional like any other toothpaste but without all the foaming at mouth. The ingredients are natural and it's fluoride free. I was looking for more of the ginger to come through but sadly it's hardly noticeable. I do like it but will try the other flavors next time.

Incredible flavor
This is the best ever toothpaste, I have been looking for a ginger toothpaste and this hit the spot. Now I really want to brush my teeth, the flavor last.

Favorite toothpaste! Love the Ginger Flavor
This is my favorite toothpaste! I have very sensitive teeth and this has improved that sensitivity quite a bit. I like that Boka offers many different flavors that aren't typical "kid flavors." I know some folks, especially neurodiverse, are averse to mint and the ginger is nice and refreshing without being overpowering. Nano toothpaste is easy to use, doesn't require water even, and is a nice consistency like a gel. No gritty feeling like with typical toothpaste. My dentist was please with my teeth last time I visited after using for 6 months, so it's doing what it's supposed to do.

Good toothpaste, some flavors not so good
Cleans fine but I really do not like the cocoa ginger flavor. Lemon lavender is really good.
