"Revelatory and sublime. . . . Her work remains conceptually open enough for viewers to draw their own conclusions, insert their own meaning and feel transported to other glorious worlds." --The New York Times
One of the most inventive artists of the twentieth century, af Klint was a pioneer of abstraction. Her first forays into nonobjective painting preceded the work of Kandinsky and Mondrian and radically mined the fields of science and religion. Deeply interested in spiritualism and philosophy, af Klint developed an iconography that explores esoteric concepts in metaphysics, as demonstrated in Tree of Knowledge. This rarely seen series of works on paper renders orbital, enigmatic forms, visual allegories of unification and separateness, darkness and light, beginning and end, life and death, and spirit and matter.

Published on the occasion of the exhibition Hilma af Klint: Tree of Knowledge at David Zwirner, New York, in 2021 and David Zwirner, London, in 2022, this book features a text by the art historian Susan Aberth examining af Klint's spiritual and theosophical influences. With a conversation between curator Helen Molesworth and the US Poet Laureate Joy Harjo discussing connections between Tree of Knowledge and Native theories, the publication broadens the scope of philosophical interpretations of af Klint's timeless work. Also included is a newly commissioned essay by the celebrated af Klint scholar Julia Voss, a contribution by the artist Suzan Frecon, and a text by art historian Max Rosenberg that further develops the conversation around why af Klint's work was not recognized in its time.

About the Author
Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) is now regarded as a pioneer of abstract art. Though her paintings were not seen publicly until 1987, her work from the early 20th century predates the first purely abstract paintings by Kandinsky, Mondrian, and Malevich. Af Klint was born in Solna, outside Stockholm, and studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm from 1882 to 1888. The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum's 2018 survey of af Klint's work was the first major solo exhibition in the United States devoted to the artist, offering an unprecedented opportunity to experience af Klint's long-underrecognized artistic achievements.

Julia Voss is an art historian, art critic, and curator who was the visual arts editor of Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung for ten years. She learned Swedish in order to write the best-selling Hilma af Klint: A Biography (2022), which has been translated into four languages and was short-listed for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize.

Susan Aberth is the Edith C. Blum Professor in the Art History and Visual Culture Program at Bard College. Her publications include The Tarot of Leonora Carrington, co-authored with Mexican curator Tere Arcq, and Leonora Carrington: Surrealism, Alchemy and Art. She has contributed to the publications Witchcraft; Not Without My Ghosts; Agnes Pelton: Desert Transcendentalist; Surrealism, Occultism and Politics: In Search of the Marvelous; and Leonora Carrington and the International Avant-Garde, among others. Her work has also appeared in Artforum, Journal of Surrealism of the Americas, Abraxas: International Journal of Esoteric Studies, and Black Mirror.

Suzan Frecon is an artist known for abstract oil paintings and works on paper. She was born in 1941 in Mexico, Pennsylvania.

Max Rosenberg is an art historian and associate director of research and exhibitions at David Zwirner. He has worked on exhibitions on Josef Albers, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, William Eggleston, Paul Klee, Giorgio Morandi, Raymond Pettibon, and Christopher Williams, among others. He has received grants and awards from the Dedalus Foundation, the Fulbright Program, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and the Getty Research Institute, among other institutions. His writings have appeared in various publications, including The Getty Research Journal, Texte zur Kunst, and Art in America.

A poet, musician, playwright, author, and member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, Joy Harjo is currently serving as the 23rd Poet Laureate of the United States, her second term as Poet Laureate. She has written nine books of poetry and two memoirs, and has edited several anthologies of Native American writing.

Helen Molesworth is a Los Angeles-based writer, podcaster, and curator. Her major museum exhibitions include: Leap Before You Look: Black Mountain College 1933-1957, This Will Have Been: Art, Love, and Politics in the 1980s, and Work Ethic. She has organized monographic exhibitions of Ruth Asawa, Moyra Davey, Noah Davis, Louise Lawler, Steve Locke, Kerry James Marshall, Catherine Opie, and Luc Tuymans. She is the author of numerous catalogue essays and her writing has appeared in Artforum, Art Journal, Documents, and October. The recipient of the 2011 Bard Center for Curatorial Studies Award for Curatorial Excellence, in 2021 she received a Guggenheim Fellowship and in 2022 she was awarded The Clark Art Writing Prize.

Great plot, steamy goodness, and absolute heartbreak, what more could you want?
Format: Paperback
“I’d already concluded a long time ago that I would never love someone the way I’d loved Wren—the way I still loved her. Because it didn’t matter if it had been ten days or ten years. A love like that ruined you for all others.” Suspenseful, Heartbreaking and Surprising! I have only read one other Catherine Cowles book; Tattered Stars and I loved it just as much as I love Whispers of You. The thing I love about this book (and the other) is also my one complaint. She has found the magic potion for a perfect romantic suspense. And maybe I wouldn't be saying this, if I had finished the other series, before starting this. I also know my opinion is so limited having only read two out of her incredibly extensive backlist. BUT the two I have read, feel very similar to each other, So much so that I look back now, a week after reading Whispers of You and I am getting them confused in my head. Thats not to say I didn't LOVE both books, because I absolutely did. This just felt like a plug and play equation to perfection with changing the details around. That being said this book grabs you from the prologue and doesn't give your heart a break until the very end. Holt and Wrens story is heartbreaking, I do wish we would have gotten a glimpse of the good before the bad, more often through the book to further the draw between them. But that's not because I feel like its lacking, its more that I loved the love these two had for each other and I would have enjoyed seeing it before either of them suffered through the tainted lenses of loss and fear. I loved the side characters and as the story progressed, I began to wonder who the culprit was, I did have one right but was dead nuts wrong on the other so both my mind was blown, and my heart was broken at the same time when I found out. Catherine Cowles keeps your heart in a vice the entire story and I love her for that. I am new to romantic suspense but am prone to panic attacks (HA) so, I find that her writing is just enough and not too much for me to read without sending me in to a tizzy. Overall though I do love this book, and I look forward to Echos of you and the second one in Tattered and Torn series, I just think I might finish that series before I keep going so, I can keep them straight.

Stunning Second Chance Romance
Format: Paperback
Well, I truly began my February reading in the best way with this book. I was so excited to read it after absolutely loving the Tattered and Torn series and it DELIVERED my friends. It has all of the emotions, all of the beauty, all of the suspense I’ve come to adore in Catherine’s books turned up even just a little more. Dare I say she even turned up the spice a bit?? Phew with the heat between these two! Along with the suspense element we get served small town, an over protective hero, and the most heart melting of second chance romances. Right from the prologue this book is off and running, I was not prepared for it. You meet Wren and hear about her gorgeous love for Holt. An absolutely horrific event occurs though that we learn sends him running for 10 years, and makes her a ghost of her former self after losing him. Neither of them, especially Holt, handled the aftermath well. It made me love them more though to see the growth they go through when he comes back and they reforge their intense, soul deep connection. Both of them face a whole lot of demons. I also love that even though it was completely awful for them both to be apart, Holt leaving forces Wren to become independent and stand on her own. So their second time around, it’s an even stronger, more equal relationship. If you follow my feed closely, you also know that I am always gone for a found family dynamic, and we have that here in spades with the way the Hartleys watch out for Wren. Her relationship with Holt’s parents and siblings is just gorgeous. The way Holt heals his relationship with them all is wonderful too. I’m already deeply in love with Nash and cannot WAIT for his book next. Yes to a new family saga series, please and thank you!!! I can’t recommend this one enough.

Definitely reading more by this author!!!
Format: Paperback
I really enjoyed this book! I absolutely love Holt and Wren. I loved watching them come back together and admit their feelings for each other. What I loved most was the mystery and suspension all throughout this book! It had me hooked from the very beginning, and just when I thought I knew who the culprit was, it was twisted to someone I never expected! I’ll definitely be reading more by this author 🫶🏻
