Large Old Masters Painting After Nicolas Poussin's The Sacrament of Ordination with Exquisite Gold Frame

An exceptional and museum-quality large-scale oil painting after Nicolas Poussin's masterpiece 'The Sacrament of Ordination' (1636-1640), one of the artist's celebrated series of Seven Sacraments. This accomplished work demonstrates sophisticated understanding of Poussin's compositional principles, classical aesthetic, and the theological significance of the Ordination sacrament. Housed in an exquisite gold frame that enhances the painting's grandeur, this work represents an extraordinary acquisition opportunity for collectors of Old Master paintings, Baroque art, religious subjects, or those seeking historically significant works that combine artistic excellence with spiritual depth.

Nicolas Poussin - French Master

Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665) stands as one of the greatest French painters and a defining figure of French Baroque classicism. Working primarily in Rome, Poussin created paintings of extraordinary intellectual depth, compositional sophistication, and classical beauty. His work synthesized Renaissance traditions with Baroque drama while maintaining rational clarity and philosophical depth. Poussin's influence on French art was profound and lasting, establishing principles of classical composition and intellectual rigor that shaped French painting for centuries. His Seven Sacraments series (created in two versions, 1636-1640 and 1644-1648) represents some of his most important religious works, combining theological seriousness with artistic excellence.

The Sacrament of Ordination - Subject and Significance

The Sacrament of Ordination depicts Christ ordaining the Apostles as priests, establishing the priesthood and the sacramental system central to Catholic theology. This subject held profound significance in Counter-Reformation Catholicism, affirming the Church's sacramental authority and apostolic succession. Poussin's treatment of this subject demonstrates his ability to convey theological concepts through carefully orchestrated compositions, expressive gestures, and classical dignity. The scene's gravity and spiritual significance made it perfect subject for Poussin's intellectual and artistic approach.

After Poussin - Artistic Tradition

The designation 'after Poussin' indicates this painting is a later copy or interpretation of Poussin's original composition. Such copies served important functions - allowing wider audiences to experience masterworks, providing study material for artists, and satisfying collectors who couldn't acquire originals. Quality copies 'after' master artists are valued for their own artistic merits, their role in disseminating important compositions, and their documentation of how later artists engaged with masterworks. This painting's quality and scale suggest it was created by an accomplished artist with deep understanding of Poussin's principles.

Large Scale - Impressive Presence

The description as large indicates substantial size that creates impressive presence and allows the composition's complexity to be fully appreciated. Large-scale religious paintings command attention, create immersive viewing experiences, and demonstrate ambitious artistic intentions. Scale significantly affects both visual impact and market value, with substantial paintings commanding premiums. The large format suits both private collections and institutional settings, particularly spaces where religious art enhances atmosphere.

Baroque Style - Artistic Context

While Poussin is associated with classical restraint, his work belongs to the Baroque period and demonstrates Baroque characteristics including dramatic lighting, emotional engagement, and theatrical composition. The Baroque era's emphasis on religious art serving devotional and didactic purposes made Poussin's Sacraments series particularly significant. This painting's Baroque character connects it to 17th-century artistic and religious culture while Poussin's classical approach distinguishes it from more overtly dramatic Baroque works.

Oil on Canvas - Traditional Medium

Executed in oil on canvas, this painting employs the traditional medium that dominated European painting. Oil paint's versatility allowed artists to achieve subtle color harmonies, atmospheric effects, and detailed rendering essential for complex religious compositions. Canvas provided durable, portable support suitable for large-scale works. The combination ensured paintings could survive centuries with proper care.

Exquisite Gold Frame - Enhanced Presentation

The exquisite gold frame dramatically enhances the painting's presentation and value. Quality period or period-style frames are essential for Old Master paintings, providing appropriate context while protecting the work. Gold frames, with their associations with sacred art and luxury, suit religious subjects particularly well. The frame's quality suggests it was chosen or commissioned specifically for this painting, demonstrating commitment to proper presentation. Fine frames can represent significant value in themselves and dramatically affect paintings' overall impact.

Compositional Sophistication

Poussin's original composition demonstrates extraordinary sophistication - carefully arranged figures, classical architectural setting, expressive gestures conveying theological meaning, and rational spatial organization. This copy's quality depends on how successfully it captures these compositional principles. The painting's large scale allows the composition's complexity to be appreciated while the artist's understanding of Poussin's principles determines the work's success.

Condition and Preservation

As a painting potentially centuries old, condition assessment is crucial. The canvas integrity, paint layer preservation, any restoration history, and structural soundness should be evaluated by conservation professionals. Many period paintings have survived remarkably well due to quality materials and construction. Detailed condition reports available to serious collectors. Appropriate conservation and framing ensure continued preservation.

Investment Value and Collectibility

Large-scale paintings after Nicolas Poussin's important religious compositions represent solid investment opportunities. The combination of Poussin's towering reputation, the Sacrament of Ordination's significance, large scale, oil on canvas medium, exquisite gold frame, and the work's quality creates strong appeal among collectors of Old Master paintings, Baroque art, religious subjects, and those seeking historically significant works. As authentic period paintings and quality copies after masters become scarcer, accomplished examples show consistent market performance.

Display and Presentation

This painting deserves prominent placement where its scale, subject, and artistic quality can be appreciated. The large format and religious subject make it particularly suitable for formal rooms, libraries, chapels, or institutional settings. The exquisite gold frame enhances the painting's grandeur while proper lighting reveals the compositional sophistication and painterly technique. Climate-controlled environment essential for long-term preservation.

Cultural and Historical Significance

This painting embodies Poussin's enduring influence, the Counter-Reformation's emphasis on sacramental theology, and the tradition of copying masterworks for study and collection. It represents how Poussin's compositions continued to inspire artists and collectors long after his death, documenting his lasting impact on European art. The painting connects viewers to Baroque religious culture while demonstrating classical composition's enduring power.

Collecting Context

This painting appeals to collectors of Old Master paintings, works after Poussin, Baroque art, religious subjects, large-scale paintings, and those seeking works combining historical significance with artistic excellence. It would enhance private collections, corporate holdings, ecclesiastical settings, or institutional acquisitions where the work can contribute to understanding of Baroque religious art.

Not the sorry copper coated aluminum.
Size: 16 AWG-100 ft
The wire is 16 gauge plenty big for my system. Heck, the wires supplied with my stereo, copomonet speakers, and amplifiers are about 20 or 24 gauge. I'm quite sure the wire will be more than suffeceint. I, m installing a mono sub amplifier a four-way amplifier to the sub amp outputs and the front of lines of the stereo. I'm gonna be pushing 20 speakers all except the sub woofer only pushing 100 watts a channel and the sub will push 150 watts. That makes 21 altogether. Not much just good clean sound. I've been working on the project going on 5 years now. Been bargain hunting, besides the work I've only got about $650 in the project. Can't wait to get it completed here around the end of July. Hopefully, it will sound great didn't want to pay anyone. Seen too many "professional" jobs that were subpar. I've seen some nightmares. Figured if l did the job then who could I blame at least I can only blame myself and didn't pay $1,000 for it. 😁🤔

It's a good one, buy it.
Size: 16 AWG-100 ft
Actual 5 stars! OFC, copper stranded wire, takes solder nicely when tinned, stiff and pliable enough to stay bent. covering melts INTO wire as expected. I was hoping for a good deal and got one.
