Away Down South: A History of Southern IdentityFrom the seventeenth century Cavaliers and Uncle Tom's Cabin to Civil Rights museums and today's conflicts over the Confederate flag, here is a brilliant portrait of southern identity, served in an engaging blend of history, literature, and popular culture. In this insightful book, written with dry wit and sharp insight, James C. Cobb explains how the South first came to be seen and then came to see itself as a region apart from the rest of America.
From the seventeenth century Cavaliers and Uncle Tom's Cabin to Civil Rights museums and today's conflicts over the Confederate flag, here is a brilliant portrait of southern identity, served in an engaging blend of history, literature, and popular culture. In this insightful book, written with dry wit and sharp insight, James C. Cobb explains how the South first came to be seen--and then came to see itself--as a region apart from the rest of America. As Cobb demonstrates, the legend of the aristocratic Cavalier origins of southern planter society was nurtured by both northern and southern writers, only to be challenged by abolitionist critics, black and white. After the Civil War, defeated and embittered southern whites incorporated the Cavalier myth into the cult of the "Lost Cause," which supplied the emotional energy for their determined crusade to rejoin the Union on their own terms. After World War I, white writers like Ellen Glasgow, William Faulkner and other key figures of "Southern Renaissance" as well as their African American counterparts in the "Harlem Renaissance"--Cobb is the first to show the strong links between the two movements--challenged the New South creed by asking how the grandiose vision of the South's past could be reconciled with the dismal reality of its present. The Southern self-image underwent another sea change in the wake of the Civil Rights movement, when the end of white supremacy shook the old definition of the "Southern way of life"--but at the same time, African Americans began to examine their southern roots more openly and embrace their regional, as well as racial, identity. As the millennium turned, the South confronted a new identity crisis brought on by global homogenization: if Southern culture is everywhere, has the New South become the No South? Here then is a major work by one of America's finest Southern historians, a magisterial synthesis that combines rich scholarship with provocative new insights into what the South means to southerners and to America as well.Binding Type: Paperback

Strong Clean with a Gentle Feel
My husband has been looking for a body wash strong enough to handle the dirt and residue from blacksmith work, but still gentle enough not to dry out or irritate his skin. This product checks both boxes with ease.
Quick verdict:
Cleans extremely well, lathers easily, and despite being tough on dirt, is still gentle on the skin.
✅ What we liked:
-Effective cleansing. Easily washes away dirt and grime without needing excessive scrubbing.
-Rich lather. One pump creates plenty of foam for a full-body wash.
-Thick gel consistency. A little goes a long way, so the bottle lasts.
-Lightweight formula. Doesn’t feel greasy or heavy on the skin.
-Gentle on skin. No irritation was noticed with regular use.
-Clean ingredient profile. Plant-based, free from parabens and phthalates.
-Fresh scent. Cool, crisp fragrance with light menthol/mint notes that aren’t overpowering.
-Scent lasts even when the shower ends.
-Cruelty-free. Not tested on animals.
⚠️ Things to consider:
The scent has notes of menthol and mint, which may not be for everyone.
Best for people needing a deeper clean (work, outdoor, hands-on jobs). Great for daily use without drying out skin. For anyone who likes a fresh, light minty scent.
Overall, this has been a really great addition to his routine. It performs well for heavier-duty cleaning while still being gentle enough for daily use, which can be hard to find in one product.
⭐️ I included a video showing how much lather you get from a single pump, along with a photo of the consistency for reference.

Relaxing Nighttime Body Wash That Leaves Skin Soft
I’ve been using this body wash during my nighttime showers and it’s quickly become one of my favorites. The scent is really calming, with chamomile, starflower, and blue lavender, which makes it perfect for winding down before bed.
The formula is plant-based and gentle, so it cleans really well without leaving my skin feeling dry or tight. I also like that the gel turns into a silky, spreadable foam, so you only need a small amount each time.
The bottle is a generous 28 ounces, so it lasts a while too. If you’re looking for a relaxing body wash that smells great and leaves your skin feeling soft and clean, this is definitely a good one to try.

great scent, easy pump
easy to use, nice product pump, smells great and neutral but probably more mens leaning with the woodsy scents. lathers up nicely even on a shower towel that isn't as "loo-fah" like. not sure if this is gentle on skin or moisturizing, but smells good, cleans well, that's all that matters for me. i moisturize later after showers.

Love this body wash!
My family loves this brand body wash and this scent is very nice!! Not too strong, but not too light either. The pump is great for ease of use. We all have sensitive skin and this leaves us smooth, soft, moisturized, and smelling nice. Doesn’t flare our eczema. Good price.
