Minerva D.H. “Deutsche Heer” Military Watch – WWII Issued circa 1944

We are pleased to present this historically significant Minerva D.H. (Dienstuhr Heer) military-issued wristwatch, produced around 1944 for the German army (Deutsche Heer) during the final stages of World War II. A true piece of military horology, this timepiece captures the utilitarian design and wartime engineering of one of Switzerland’s most respected movement makers: Minerva.

Military Heritage & Wartime Design

During WWII, Minerva was one of the Swiss manufacturers contracted to supply rugged and reliable timepieces for the German armed forces. These watches were marked “D.H.” (Dienstuhr Heer), denoting official issue to the Heer, or German Army. In a period where materials like stainless steel were prioritized for direct military use, chrome-plated cases were commonly employed for wristwatches.

This particular example retains its original features, including a matte black dial with radium-painted Arabic numerals, and fixed 18mm lugs, typical of true military-issued watches.

Condition & Features

  • Dial: Original matte black dial, untouched and with radium-applied Arabic numerals. A superb example of functional wartime legibility.

  • Case: Chrome-plated brass case measuring 34mm wide by 42mm lug-to-lug, and 10mm thick. Back is stamped “Edelstahl” (German for stainless steel).

  • Crystal: Clean and clear, with vintage-appropriate profile.

  • Movement: Powered by the robust Minerva Cal. 12 (also known as Lavina Cal. 105)—a manual-winding movement built for durability in harsh conditions.

  • Lugs: Fixed 18mm lugs, typical for military-issued field watches to prevent strap loss in combat.

  • Strap: Supplied on a brand new hand-made leather strap, crafted in Belgium.

  • Service: Recently serviced and keeping time well, accompanied by a 1-year mechanical warranty.

Better than expected
This thing is great. I wasn't sure what to expect for the price, but it exceeded my expectations in every way. I have no complaints, quality is fine, the grind is fine, it's easy to use. I've used mine every day since I purchased it and it works good as new. This is my first manual burr grinder, so there could very well be better ones out there, but I am very happy with this purchase.

A good little grinder for small batches.
It's a good quality grinder, I use mine for my moka pot since the grind needs to be specific. It's very easy to use and its small enough to store away. The only issue is it takes some time and effort to grind for more than one person, so keep that in mind if you're brewing anything more than a cup of espresso or a moka pot. I've dropped mine more than I can count so store on its side (although its very sturdy and was not broken) A solid product.

Works very well as a pill grinder!
One of the clients I work with needs his pills crushed and dissolved. We have relied on the spoons method for years but some of his newer medications don’t crush well enough using that method. We tried the basic plastic pill crushers but they tend to get gummed up and don’t actually pulverize the pills. This fit our needs perfectly and the pills get crushed into a fine powder with ease. It is very easy to use and clean and takes very little effort to operate (at least for pills).

Great Little Grinder — Solid Build & Easy to Use!
I’ve really enjoyed using this manual coffee grinder! For the price, it’s an excellent find. The adjustable settings work surprisingly well — I’ve been able to get a consistent grind whether I’m brewing for espresso or French press, which isn’t always the case with more affordable manual grinders. The ceramic burr gives a nice, even grind without overheating the beans, which helps preserve the flavor. It’s easy to use and straightforward to adjust. The grind size clicks into place firmly, so you don’t feel like it’s going to slip or change while you’re using it. One fill gives me enough coffee for about two cups, which is perfect for my morning routine or when I’m brewing a small batch. The build quality feels sturdy and durable, with a sleek look that doesn’t feel cheap. The handle turns smoothly and doesn’t wobble, which makes the whole experience feel solid and satisfying. I’ve taken it on a short weekend trip already, and it’s lightweight and compact enough for travel or camping. If you're someone who loves the ritual of grinding your own beans or just wants a reliable backup grinder for when the power’s out, I’d highly recommend this one. Great value for a tool that feels like it’ll last!
