Smoky quartz from the Erongo region is typically a quite dark brown-black color, with lower clarity due to natural inclusions, and a flat surface luster caused by etching. This piece is a bit lighter than usual with some crystal faces glassy clear, providing a window inside. Erongo smoky grows sculptural angular points with nice striations like this trio of crystals perched atop a base of black tourmaline (schorl) crystals. It has some well-formed crystals with striations, and some interesting inverted hexagonal crystal shapes. Paired with hyalite and schorl, the smoky quartz takes on a witchy appearance.

Smoky quartz gets its dark coloration from trace elements that tint dark when the quartz is exposed to natural radiation. This piece has ghostly dark spots. Don’t worry, the specimen can't expose you to radiation—even if the hyalite turns "radioactive" green under UV light due to trace elements of uranium.

Hyalite is a form of opal, which in turn is part of the broader quartz family. Related minerals commonly grow together because they have similar requirements for growth: in this case, the availability of silica that is the basis for the quartz family. Growing conditions that initially produced quartz changed, and a later generation of growth deposited the less common hyalite on the specimen.

Hyalite displays botryoidal growth (bunches of “grape-like” round crystals) with a glossy high luster like a layer of bubbles. I think it looks like mermaid caviar! It turns "radioactive" green under UV light due to trace elements of uranium. Don’t worry though, it's not enough to expose you to radiation. Hyalite can appear fluid with formations that look like the splash from a drip frozen in place, or as if the edge has been peeled up away from the quartz like a tutu.

UV reactivity Hyalite is so strongly UV reactive that you can see it in sunlight. Under indoor lighting it is pale yellow to golden in color, but turns visibly greenish yellow when exposed to the UV in sunlight. 395nm UV fluoresces a strong green, with an icy blue undertone. Best viewed in darker conditions. 365nm UV fluoresces a strong yellowish-green color, generally visible even in bright lighting. No phosphorescence detected.

Loose piece: There is a slightly loose small schorl crystal in the base of the piece. It may dislodge with handling.

This machine is amazing. We just returned from Italy and this is as close to a cafe as you can get. It leaves a dense foam on top from the high pressure water system making truly authentic. It is easy to use and clean!! I loved the size too as it fits perfectly on our shelf. Highly recommend if you want an italian cafe to enjoy!

Bargain Espresso Machine Works Great
Color: Silver
Great espresso machine, and a bargain at only $100! Pulls perfect shots with a generous amount of crema. And, it comes with a high-quality tamper. Tips: When you first turn it on, remember to run the steam wand for a couple seconds to prime the system. Test/experiment with the grind to get it just right--40 seconds with my blade grinder is working for me.

Great Espresso Machine for Beginners
Color: Silver
Update: Milk teamer doesn't deliver the foam like at the first couple of days, and the espresso doesn't come with the crema any longer. Somehow the pressure goes above the espresso range, and I tried to decrease the amount of coffee, and no results. I am so disappointed. First thing that impressed me about this little espresso machine is how easy it to use. You can make a double espresso shot in literarily 1 minute. Second thing is size, the machine is pretty compact that you can place it anywhere in the kitchen without worrying about taking too much space. Also, it heats up quick, and the options are straightforward. The water tank is just the perfect size, which is excellent for me, and I don't have to refill water constantly. Performance-wise, it feels solid and does an excellent job making shots like what you'd expect in a cafe. The water pressure is just right, delivering this espresso shot without the extra acidity. The flowmeter regulates the water evenly which is great in making that creamy espresso. Something else to note, it's small and also quiet, which is big to me since the last one was making unnecessary noise every time I make a shot. Now, the milk frother is pretty decent, and create that foam you'd love to see in your cappuccino and latte. Overall, this is a pretty decent choice, and feels durable.
