This novel from debutant author Mike Hodgkins, will grip you as he describes the Red Watch at Graveton Fire Station and the dangerous work that they do.
We meet Mac James, the Officer in charge, but also Jake, a labourer who whilst out walking on the Derbyshire moors meets Mac who has become involved in saving the life of an elderly man who has collapsed.
He involves Jake and inspires him to join the firs service. We follow Jake through his trials to join the service and subsequently completing his training, during which time he himself rescues a young woman from a house fire.
The book also looks into the lives of the Peak District Ranger Service and the people who do the vital work of the Mountain Rescue Service.
This is the first in the trilogy, with 'Jake's Tale' and 'The Last Gasp' completing the set.
About the Author
Mike Hodgkins is a former fire officer in the Sheffield Fire Service. He is now retired and spends his time walking the hills of the Peak District.
