Sun Tze was born in China, in the Kingdom of Qi, during the period of the Warrior Kingdoms (476-221 BC). A soldier and a politician, he served the Wu Kingdom, which he helped reach pre-eminence during this period in Chinese history. Sun Tze is famous for his influential treaty on military strategy “Sun Tzu. The Art of War”.

The Project “Advisor” was Yu Jing’s answer to Project “Orleans Maiden”. Yu Jing’s High Command requested ALEPH recreate a military strategist, a less notorious persona that functioned as a power behind the throne, creating victories without receiving too much publicity. The character of Sun Tze seemed the most appropriate, as much for his qualities as for his cultural affinity. The recreation of his personality was completed with a military background from Yu Jing schools of strategy, preparing him for modern warfare. Sun Tze is a natural born strategist, with an extraordinary vision of the future. His intense military talent is reflected in all his decisions. He possesses a sharp computer mind with which he can imagine and devise hundreds of plans and contingencies in an instant, which makes him a vital element in any operation. He is an experienced soldier and has great perspicacity and all the leadership qualities that could be required. He possesses a solid temperament, with the calmness and sardonic arrogance proper of a veteran officer combined with the tranquillity and security of one who knows many secrets, but his attitude reveals all the vigour of a general.

Excellent book on the Campaign!

I highly recommend this book! I have read many books on the Guadalcanal Campaign and I rate this one at the top. It has just the right blend of stragity and personal accounts to keep the story interesting. It is actually a real page-turner, which is rare for a non-fiction work. Wheelan writes in a style that reminds me of the books I read in my teens by Cornelius Ryan and John Toland, which captured my interest in WWII and history. The book jumps right into the invasion, no multiple chapters concerning the planning and build up, but this info is covered later. All phases of this campaign are covered; ground, air and sea. The maps are okay. There are never enough. The author skims over much of the U. S. Army battles after the Marines are relieved, but that seems to be a trend in all of the books on Guadalcanal that I have read. Overall, this is an excellent book for those who want to learn about the campaign and those who need a re-fresher after reading Starvation Island and Guadalcanal by Frank in years past.

I have read dozens of WWII books and many touched on the Guadalcanal Battle. I thoroughly enjoyed The Big E and its involvement in the battle. Thas book covered the entire conflict from start to finish. Frankly, I hated to see the book end. The courage and tenacity of all those involved was amazing. To understand the miserable conditions in the area where these men fought was inspiring. To see this battle through the eyes of the American forces and Japanese forces was an added bonus. Well-written and it really laid out all of the details of how this battle unfolded. I listed to the audio-book, and it was helpful to have the PDF to see a map. How the soldiers on each side endured the battles in the Pacific Theater is beyond me. Man's inhumanity to man that result in this battle outlined here is depressing, but also the sacrifice of those called on to endure and suffer through that inhumanity is equally inspiring and humbling to those whose lives are so comfortable in comparison.

If Ww2 interest u at all then u want to read this book. I have read the other books on this subject ( so why read another one?) well what i luv about this book is that because so much time has passed that most all of the people in this book are gone & so much more info has been released about these battles, that the combatants ( especially the higher officers are written about as if they are human (mistakes & warts & all) & not like they were all Bull Halsey type Gods which they were certainly not as in most all the books released within the 1st 30 yrs of the war. This makes for a much different & more interesting story about these battles than even the original books on the subject. You come to understand the where & whyfores better, by knowing the real true strenghts & weakness's & fears that drove these men. Hey they are all the bravest of heroes to me. But the were not perfect, & because of this, mistakes were made, that were really not acknowledged or maybe not even known about in early books on WW2
