Lace as we know it today developed prior to the sixteenth century from the drawn work, cutwork, and lacis (darning on squares of net) that evolved out of centuries of embroidery and needlework. Traces of elaborate netting have been found in the tombs of ancient Egypt; the Bible mentions "fine twisted linen wrought with needlework"; and centuries-old Scandinavian burial chambers have yielded fragments of gold lace.
This definitive history of lace-making is a landmark of nineteenth-century erudition and scholarship that has never been surpassed for its wide learning and comprehensive treatment of the subject. The third edition of the work, published in 1875, was substantially revised and enlarged in 1901, with much new material on the laces of Italy, England, Ireland, Crete, and Sicily. Nearly 100 new illustrations were added to show different fashions of wearing lace. This fourth edition, published in the United States in 1911, is reprinted here complete and unabridged.
Combining meticulous research with a concise, readable style, Mrs. Palliser traces the history and development of lace-making in Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Flanders, France, England, Scotland, Ireland, and other lands. Quoting extensively from the literature of the day, the author outlines the evolution of reticella, a Venetian lace based on geometric forms; the light and flowery point de France; Valenciennes, a fine diamond-meshed lace much used for trimming and ruffles, Chantilly, a delicate mesh with ornate patterns; point d'Espagne, made with gold and silver threads; and many other varieties. In addition to detailing the development of the lace itself, Mrs. Palliser acquaints us with the social, cultural, and economic conditions that affected its manufacture.
Over 90 photographs and 173 prints and line drawings depict dozens of different laces and their use in collars, ruffs, handkerchiefs, aprons, fans, mantillas, petticoats, masks, mantles, and ecclesiastical garments. Many of the illustrations have been enlarged to show details of stitching. History of Lace is a book that belongs in the library of every needleworker as well as among the reference books of costume and cultural historians. It is a comprehensive, anecdotal, and profusely illustrated chronicle of an age-old art that has adorned and embellished the clothing and accoutrements of mankind since earliest times.

Great monitor but not the monitor stand
Size: 32-inch
Overall, this is a very good monitor for the price. The picture quality is excellent, and the difference compared to my previous 27-inch 1080p monitor is immediately noticeable. The curved screen adds to the viewing experience, and there are plenty of settings available to customize the display, including good brightness options. My main complaint is the stand. It feels a bit cheap due to its plastic construction and lack of adjustability. Considering the quality of the monitor itself, a better stand would have been nice. The monitor does not include built-in speakers, which wasn't an issue for me but may matter to some buyers. Despite the stand, this monitor offers great value and delivers excellent overall performance.

Great for Videos and browsing
Size: 32-inch, Size: 32-inch
I did not buy this for gaming. I wanted a second monitor to browse while playing video games. With that being said it has great picture and doesn’t have any issues with refresh or delivering crisp picture quality. YouTube videos at 4K resolution is almost perfect. Its functions are user friendly and not complicated at all. The stand is rather long because of it being 32” and curved but it is strong and stable. It was super simple to connect and had no issues with compatibility with my PC. I wouldn’t use this for gaming especially if your running a high performance GPU. I’d spend a few hundred more for a better performing monitor

Great Monitor, poor VESA mount.-Updated
Size: 32-inch, Size: 32-inch
Great Monitor, love to give it five stars except for the non-standard VESA mount. The VESA mount plate just won't work with out major modification, or a adapter bracket that slots into were the stand is connected. Then there is the fact that the cheapest adapter on amazon is on sale for just slightly less than half of what I paid for my dual arm stand. I'm not a monitor expert so I can't speak to any technical aspects, but I can tell you I love it . Its crisp and the details with full ray tracing look amazing. Got one for the wife as well She's got a 9070xt GPU and I'm running a RTX3080 and this monitor does them full justice as far as my eyes can tell. Update: I was going to just live with the stand for this thing...Thing is my desk faces an open room, with dogs, Cats and grand kid the potential for my monitor to fall of the desk was too great. So first I was going to buy an adapter but wouldn't you know, I can't find one. Samsung can't even manage to have the same VESA mounts on their own monitors. So pictured is my own adapter, No problem, just a drill, jigsaw, circular saw, some spare long VESA screws, wood screws, and a piece of reclaimed 3/4 inch plywood and a bit of foam padding (for spacing just a little insurance that the wood screws wouldn't get though to the monitor) Tempted to drop the rating to 3 stars but I really like the graphics on this thing. Would I buy it again...Not sure, I love Samsung products but I don't want to go though this little adventure again.
