On a winter night at a prestigious New England boarding school, two teenage girls compared secret love letters male teachers had written them. One girl kept a journal and recorded the events that followed. The other, years later, took her own life.

When her own daughter was 16, Kathleen Buckstaff, author and former Los Angeles Times columnist, developed severe stomach pain and within a few months lost thirty pounds. Doctors eventually determined she was suffering from PTSD. As she reviewed her old journals, Kathleen had to face painful truths. When she discovered the two teachers were still teaching, she felt obligated to do everything possible to protect current students.

Kathleen interviewed over 60 college students, recent graduates, healthcare professionals, self-defense instructors, and professors. In letters to a teenage girl, Kathleen revisits the events that changed her life and the lives of her closest friends, drawing from her interviews to describe what she wishes she had known about sex, predators, self-defense, and love.

Get Savvy also includes a journal section with reflection questions, in which Kathleen offers a practice of self-love, kindness, and respect, and encourages the reader to take time to get to know herself.

Get Savvy can be used as a reference book in Health and Sexuality education classes. It covers bullying, resisting peer pressure and how to create positive social alliances. Get Savvy also addresses what to say to someone who has been sexually assaulted or raped; how to identify an abusive relationship; what to say to someone who is depressed and may be suicidal; what to say to someone who may have an eating disorder. Get Savvy covers how to ask someone on a date; how to talk about sexual boundaries; what consent looks like; how to identify predatory behavior; verbal language around self-defense; how to intervene and help as a bystander; bystander training; and how to get help for oneself or a friend who is suffering from PTSD, mental illness, or sexual trauma. Get Savvy specifically deals with suicide prevention and lists warning signs and prevention strategies.

Get Savvy also includes mindfulness training, the cultivation of compassion and healthy boundaries, and encourages the exploration of one's inner guide, gifts, and goals. Get Savvy teaches self-love, respect and resilience. It is a resource tool for teens, both male and female, parents, educators, healthcare providers and community leaders.

It is astonishing to learn that Buckstaff didn't start out intending to share her own story of sexual trauma. Her courage in confronting this deeply damaging personal experience is what brings cohesion to the 60-plus exhaustive interviews she conducted to create this powerful, unsettling but ultimately inspiring and affirming book. Though intended to help teenage girls navigate sex and love, Get Savvy is a blueprint for recovery that offers hope to anyone at any age who has experienced any kind of emotional trauma. -Karen Barr

Whether you're hitting the beach, hiking, or engaging in sports, this sunscreen offers high-level defense against harmful UV rays. ✅ Pros: High SPF Protection: Provides SPF 100, blocking 99% of UVB rays, making it suitable for individuals with fair skin or those prone to sunburns. Water & Sweat Resistant: Offers up to 80 minutes of water and sweat resistance, ensuring lasting protection during intense activities. Non-Greasy Formula: The lightweight, breathable formula absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy residue, allowing for comfortable wear. ⚠️ Cons: Thicker Consistency: Some users have noted that the lotion has a thicker consistency, which may require more effort to rub in evenly. Potential Residue: A few reviews mention that the product can leave a white cast on the skin, especially on darker skin tones. 💡 Tips for Best Results: Apply Generously: Ensure an even application by using a generous amount and rubbing it in thoroughly. Reapply as Needed: Reapply every 80 minutes, or after swimming or sweating, to maintain optimal protection. Final Verdict: Banana Boat Sport Ultra SPF 100 Sunscreen is a reliable choice for those needing high-level sun protection during physical activities. Its water and sweat resistance, combined with a non-greasy formula, make it suitable for active individuals. However, users with darker skin tones should be aware of the potential white cast and may consider testing the product before full application.

Great but some shine
Size: 4 Fl Oz (Pack of 2), Style: SPF 100/Lotion, Size: 4 Fl Oz (Pack of 2), Style: SPF 100/Lotion
Sunscreen is a very important part of the skincare routine. Who cares about the results you get from the rest of your routine for your hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, etc if you aren't doing anything to protect it from the UV damage. This sunscreen offers that protection and seems to do it well which is the most important function of a sunscreen. The experience of the sunscreen for me was also positive. The sunscreen comes out white but applies clear which you would expect from an organic sunscreen. It has that stereotypical sunscreen scent but I personally love it and it psychologically ignites nostalgia for the days spent at the beach. It reminds me of the time going to the beach, making sandcastles and eating popsicles as a kid. However, I know some find this unpleasant. For those in this camp, I would not recommend this. Outside of this, however, the feel is a bit greasy at first but goes away after some time. One minor issue I find is that is does have some shine. Some people might like it but I find it is a bit much but not as bad as others on the market. In the photos you can see what it looks like before and after application. You might not be able to tell from the photos but there is some shine. Others will most likely be able to tell that you have something on. One thing I really want to point out is that this is a chemical sunscreen that uses organic UV filters meaning they are carbon containing compounds but that does not make it bad. Clean beauty brands tend to villainize these as they "contain chemicals" or are "toxic" but these claims can be highly disputable. For one, a lot of things are chemicals. Water is a chemical but you wouldn't avoid using products with that in it. Also, a company would not allow the use of actually toxic ingredients in a skincare product. There are clearly banned substances listed by the FDA that will not make their way to your sunscreen and they also protect consumers from large exposure by restricting the quantity an ingredient can be used. The heat produced from chemical sunscreens are also minuscule compared to that of physical (or inorganic) sunscreen. These are just a couple of reasons that chemical sunscreens are very much safe (as far as we know it) according to science. I'm sorry for the small rant. I know that most of the people who see this review are looking at it because they know chemical sunscreens are not the devil as they are looking at this product but I was hoping to dissuade people who adhere to the clean beauty methods from being swept up from the fear-mongering marketing.
