Blackmagic Design USB-C Cable for URSA Mini Recorder

The Blackmagic Design USB-C Cable for URSA Mini Recorder is a high-speed, reinforced data cable designed specifically to link the URSA Mini Recorder to the camera body. Because the recorder captures high-bitrate Blackmagic RAW data (up to 12K resolution), this cable is built to much higher standards than a standard consumer USB-C cable to prevent dropped frames or data corruption.

Core Functionality

  • Secure Locking Connections: The cable features integrated locking thumb screws on both ends. These screws anchor the cable into the USB-C ports on the URSA Mini Recorder and the camera chassis, ensuring the connection remains physically secure even during high-intensity handheld or vehicle-mounted shots.

  • SuperSpeed+ Data Transfer: Rated for USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps) speeds. This bandwidth is required to handle the massive data throughput of 12K RAW files or high-frame-rate 4.6K G2 footage being written to 2.5-inch SSDs or U.2 NVMe drives.

  • Bidirectional Communication: Beyond just sending video data to the recorder, the cable allows the camera to communicate with the SSD for formatting, checking drive health, and updating the recorder's internal software.

Technical Specifications

Feature Details
Connector Type USB-C to USB-C (Male to Male)
Protocol USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps)
Length Short/Custom (Designed for direct rear-mount connection)
Mounting Dual locking screws on both connectors
Weight ~4.2 oz (120g)

Compatibility & Usage

  • URSA Mini Pro 12K: The recorder mounts directly to the back of the camera, and this cable plugs into the dedicated USB-C port located underneath the rear 12G-SDI connections.

  • URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2: Since the G2 lacks the rear-mounted USB-C port found on the 12K, the recorder still mounts to the back, but the cable must be routed to the USB-C port located inside the fold-out monitor area (above the CFast slots).

  • URSA Broadcast G2: Fully compatible via the rear USB-C port for recording 4K broadcast-ready files to SSD.

Operational Insight (2026)

In 2026, many DPs keep a spare one of these in their kit. While a standard "high-speed" USB-C cable will work in an emergency, it lacks the locking screws. On a professional set, a loose cable during a take can result in a corrupted file that may be unrecoverable, making the locking version essential for insurance and peace of mind.

Pro Tip: If you are using the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2, note that you may need a slightly longer version of this cable than the one included with the 12K kit to comfortably reach the internal USB-C port without putting strain on the connector.

Thoughtful and honest
Format: Kindle
I am so glad I read this! I've heard the term "cultural appropriation" many more times than I can count, but I hadn't thought about it in the context of religion. Bucar's writing is so engaging, and the book is a great blend of narrative non-fiction and theory. I couldn't put it down! Highly recommend.

An important and interesting read; well written and researched
Format: Hardcover
The author uses personal experiences to illustrate and enliven the text. Ms. Bucar challenges us to look at our own reactions, thoughts and practices. I would recommend this book for discussion at my book club.

Not what I was hoping for
Format: Paperback
I've been interested in the topic of religious appropriation ever since I saw my non-Tibetan neighbor hang Tibetan prayer flags on his front porch. And when I lived in Japan, I saw that non-Christian Japanese appropriated all of the trappings of Western Christian wedding ceremonies. So I had high hopes for this book. But it reads like a very looooong, and also very academic sermon on the evils of capitalism, western hegemony, and other such terms. There is not an ounce of humor in any of this book.

Pop culture: yoga, croases, costumes, tattoos of sacred symbols …is not religious appropiation.
Format: Hardcover
Neither are Christmas trees, a pagan tradition, except to religious fundamentalists. Religion, all religions … which are all patriarchal by origin and definition is to be challenged for hypocrisy … see Madonna for in your face pop blasphemy. This is not scholarship.
