The SmallRig Battery Grip Compatible Cage for BMPCC 6K Pro (Model 3382) is an industrial, form-fitting protective exoskeleton designed specifically for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro configurations that utilize the official Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera Battery Grip.

While standard cages are engineered to wrap around the camera body alone, the 3382 frame features an extended, taller physical footprint that wraps around both the camera body and the underlying battery grip as a single, structurally unified unit.

(Note: Model 3382 is the original version of this cage, which shares its core structural geometry with the revised 3382B variant).

Key Engineering and Structural Features

  • Torsion-Free Dual-Point Locking Matrix: To prevent a massive camera and battery grip assembly from twisting, flexing, or shifting inside the cage under heavy payloads, the 3382 anchors the rig securely via a dual-point locking design. It fastens via a standard 1/4"-20 screw on the bottom baseplate, coupled with a secondary alignment locating pin that slots into the camera’s top housing framework.

  • Preserved Battery and Component Access: Despite providing comprehensive wrap-around armor, the cage is precision-machined to ensure that the battery door on the bottom grip can open fully without obstruction. It also maintains unrestricted access to the camera's side media slots, cooling vents, top controls, hot shoe, tilting LCD hinge mechanisms, and audio/video input lanes.

  • NATO Rail Quick-Release Integration: Machined directly into the left and right side vertical segments of the cage are standard NATO rails. This allows operators to instantly slide on and lock quick-release accessories, such as side focus wooden handles or rubber top handle grips, without needing extra bolt-on rail adapters.

  • Diverse Cold Shoe & Mounting Array: The cage is designed as a heavy-duty cheese-plate surface, offering multiple 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threaded holes across the top and sides, multiple ARRI-style anti-twist locating holes, and a built-in cold shoe socket on the top corner to mount wireless microphone receivers or on-camera monitors.

  • Built-In Tool Compartment: Tucked into the bottom channel of the baseplate is a magnetically secured dual-ended wrench (Allen key + flathead screwdriver), ensuring you can adjust or tighten the camera mounting points on set without diving into a tool bag.

💡 Operational Rigging Tips for the 3382 Cage

The Structural Alignment Rule: When installing this cage, do not tighten the bottom 1/4"-20 screw completely first. Because you are wrapping a cage around two distinct joined components (the camera body and the bolted-on battery grip), slight mechanical tolerances can exist. Slide the camera and grip into the cage, lightly catch the threads of the top locating pin and the bottom mounting screw, and then gently tighten them back and forth in an alternating sequence. This ensures the camera sits perfectly square in the cage without placing unneeded stress on the camera's native hot shoe or bottom 1/4" sockets.

  • Protecting Data Ports with the Cable Clamp: The BMPCC 6K Pro outputs heavy RAW video data rates via its USB-C port to external SSDs and uncompressed monitoring signals over HDMI. Because these ports are prone to being bumped during handheld tracking, it is highly recommended to pair the cage with the SmallRig HDMI & USB-C Cable Clamp 3271. The clamp bolts onto the left side of the 3382 cage, mechanically locking the cable heads in place to prevent accidental media disconnects or structural damage to the camera's internal circuit boards.

  • Using a 15mm Baseplate for Lens Support: Adding the Blackmagic battery grip significantly increases the overall vertical height of your camera rig. If you plan to add a follow-focus motor or a heavy cinema zoom lens that requires physical support, you cannot use standard generic rod blocks. You should pair the bottom of the cage with a height-adjustable baseplate, such as the SmallRig 15mm LWS Baseplate. This allows you to mount 15mm rods at the mathematically correct distance from the lens axis to line up matte boxes and focus gears perfectly.

Very Easy to Use, no stress on your hands
Color: Black
I am 76 and my hands don’t grip the way they used to. Too hard using a manual can opener. This one definitely fits the bill, plus I like the rechargeable feature!

Very poor quality. Not supported by manufacturer.
I bought this because of my arthritis. I could not use a manual can opener anymore. Worthless product. It lasted 3 months, only cut soft aluminum cans. No response when I emailed the company. Do not buy this product.
