It is hand warped of yarn dyed silk and has a weft of yarn dyed merino worsted wool making a perfect combination for ties. It was originally handwoven at home by Irish weavers. In 1820 Richard Atkinson asked a group of these weavers to make their Irish Poplin for his shop and by 1837 the fabric was so popular it received a Royal Warrant from
