The Ballad of Dorothy Wordsworth: A LifeDescribed by the writer and opium addict Thomas De Quincey as "the very wildest . . . person I have ever known," DorothyWordsworth was neither the self effacing spinster nor the sacrificial saint of common telling. Described by the writer and opium addict Thomas De Quincey as "the very wildest . . . person I have ever known," DorothyWordsworth was neither the self-effacing spinster nor the sacrificial saint of common telling. A brilliant stylist in her own right, Dorothy was at the center of the Romantic movement of the early nineteenth century. She was her brother William Wordsworth's inspiration, aide, and most valued reader, and a friend to Coleridge; both borrowed from her observations of the world for their own poems.William wrote of her, "She gave me eyes, she gave me ears."

In order to remain at her brother's side, Dorothy sacrificed both marriage and comfort, jealously guarding their close-knit domesticity--one marked by a startling freedom from social convention. In the famed Grasmere Journals, Dorothy kept a record of this idyllic life together. The tale that unfolds through her brief, electric entries reveals an intense bond between brother and sister, culminating in Dorothy's dramatic collapse on the day of William's wedding to their childhood friend Mary Hutchinson. Dorothy lived out the rest of her years with her brother and Mary. The woman who strode the hills in all hours and all weathers would eventually retreat into the house for the last three decades of her life.

In this succinct, arresting biography, Frances Wilson reveals Dorothy in all her complexity. From the coiled tension of Dorothy's journals, she unleashes the rich emotional life of a woman determined to live on her own terms, and honors her impact on the key figures of Romanticism.

Half gone in the first 45 minutes...
Size: 6 Inch, Color: Bone
our medium sized dog is an aggressive chewer but we expected mire than 3/4 of an hour before the bone's demise. Half gone quickly, heavy stitching included, so threw away the second half for fear of a blockage. Not safe, not durable, disappointing. Sorry, cannot recommend this one.

Puppy loves it!
Size: 6 Inch, Color: Bone
I have a very energetic lab puppy - this chew kept her still for longer than any other toy I’ve tried (besides bully sticks and peanut butter). Highly recommend!

Good for an aggressive chewer
Size: 6 Inch, Color: Bone
My dog loves it. These last a long time. My dog is a Rottweiler/American Bulldog mix, she goes through a lot of toys. So, I try to buy her something that has no stuffing, but will keep her from getting bored. This one has lasted about 6-7 months, the leather is chewed off, but it's still the shape of a bone. I did just order another though, the one she has is a little stinky from her slobber. :-)

Not as expected
Size: 6 Inch, Color: Bone
I have been looking for these ever since we got a similar one at Sierras for our 1 1/2 yo Cane Corso. She is brutal on chew toys and the first one from the box store held up well. However, this did not hold up as well and she was done with it in less than a week. Still looking for that perfect toy.

More durable than expected.
Size: 5 Inch, Color: Raccoon
I was walking through my front room the other day when I noticed a suspicious spot on the floor. It looked like something I should not touch without gloves. As I got closer, I realized what it was. It’s the ‘guts’ from this toy. My dogs (Pit Bull and German Shorthaired Pointer) were each given one. Both are aggressive chewers with their toys. They ATE the faces off these toys and now play with the felt interior. I’m still trying to figure out how they ate through leather while the felt remained intact. Regardless, they still play with them. Now they are basically semi-fuzzy throw toys we can throw in the house because they don’t leave marks on the wall if our aim is off. Sometimes things work out the way they should. :)
