While social bees such as honey bees and bumble bees are familiar to most people, they comprise less than 10 percent of all bee species in the world. The vast majority of bees lead solitary lives, surviving without the help of a hive and using their own resources to fend off danger and protect their offspring. This book draws on new research to provide a comprehensive and authoritative overview of solitary bee biology, offering an unparalleled look at these remarkable insects.

The Solitary Bees uses a modern phylogenetic framework to shed new light on the life histories and evolution of solitary bees. It explains the foraging behavior of solitary bees, their development, and competitive mating tactics. The book describes how they construct complex nests using an amazing variety of substrates and materials, and how solitary bees have co-opted beneficial mites, nematodes, and fungi to provide safe environments for their brood. It looks at how they have evolved intimate partnerships with flowering plants and examines their associations with predators, parasites, microbes, and other bees. This up-to-date synthesis of solitary bee biology is an essential resource for students and researchers, one that paves the way for future scholarship on the subject.

Beautifully illustrated throughout, The Solitary Bees also documents the critical role solitary bees play as crop pollinators, and raises awareness of the dire threats they face, from habitat loss and climate change to pesticides, pathogens, parasites, and invasive species.

“A significant contribution by respected leaders in this important field of research. This is the first book to synthesise what we know about the evolution, lifestyles, and associates of solitary bees.”
– Robbin W. Thorp, coauthor of California Sees and Blooms: A Guide for Gardeners and Naturalists

Good product, but small in quantity.
Scent: Rain Water, Size: 33 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I like this soap a lot, but the size surprised me enough that it is worth mentioning. The Rainwater scent is clean and subtle, not overpowering or perfumey. The soap itself is clear, rinses clean, and does not leave my hands feeling dry or coated. I also appreciate that it is a more chemical conscious option that still works well for frequent handwashing. That said, I was genuinely surprised by how small the refill container was. Yes, the ounces are listed right on the ad and package, but the bottle itself looks tiny in comparison to what I expected from the photo. For the price, the quantity felt underwhelming, and that ultimately led me to return it. If the cost-to-quantity ratio made more sense, I would absolutely keep this on hand, because the product itself is very nice. Just go into it knowing the refill is smaller than you might expect based on the packaging.

On my second bottle...
Scent: Rain Water, Size: 33 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I've now purchased two bottles of this hand soap. I love the smell! The soap itself is gentle but effective. It cleans well without drying out my hands, even with frequent use. I appreciate that it’s made with ingredients like aloe vera and essential oils, which helps keep my skin feeling soft instead of stripped. The scent is light, fresh, and clean without being overpowering. The “Rain Water” fragrance has a subtle, slightly floral smell that makes washing your hands feel a little more refreshing and enjoyable.

These cotton rounds are soft, durable, and work well for everyday skincare and makeup removal. They don’t fall apart easily when using toner or micellar water, which I appreciate. The packaging is simple and convenient, and the quantity is great for the price. Overall, a reliable product to keep on hand.
