The Four Corners Compass

In this pendant, the structure of a compass provides the central motif. The directional rays of the compass points serve as a visual anchor to the environment portrayed on each side. The Compass extends past the edges of its internal frame, with each main ray touching a directional letter. This shape is nestled in a square turned on its point, all enclosed by a circle. The combination of shapes reminds us that the earth is round, and that our experiences can come from many different quarters.

On one side, the carving shows the sun with its warm aura and leafy plants basking in the glow. This symbolizes the positive energy and forward momentum that comes from having a clear direction in one’s life.

One the other side, curling waves are shown below a partly cloudy sky with crescent moon and star peeking between the clouds. This image reminds us that even when things seem to be moving past our control, or the way forward seems partly obscured, we still have the knowledge of our own internal direction to help us navigate.
