A captivating exploration of A. E. Housman and the influence of his particular brand of Englishness

A. E. Housman's A Shropshire Lad made little impression when it was first published in 1896 but has since become one of the best-loved volumes of poetry in the English language. Its evocation of the English countryside, thwarted love, and a yearning for things lost is as potent today as it was more than a century ago, and the book has never been out of print.

In Housman Country, Peter Parker explores the lives of A. E. Housman and his most famous book, and in doing so shows how A Shropshire Lad has permeated English life and culture since its publication. The poems were taken to war by soldiers who wanted to carry England in their pockets, were adapted by composers trying to create a new kind of English music, and have influenced poetry, fiction, music, and drama right up to the present day. Everyone has a personal "land of lost content" with "blue remembered hills," and Housman has been a tangible and far-reaching presence in a startling range of work, from the war poets and Ralph Vaughan Williams to Inspector Morse and Morrissey.

Housman Country is a vivid exploration of England and Englishness, in which Parker maps out terrain that is as historical and emotional as it is topographical.

Thoroughly disappointed
Size: 17" (2 x 4.0Ah)
This is my third green Works cordless electric lawnmower. I am thoroughly disappointed in this one. They have changed the mechanism for lowering & raising the wheel height. Previous mowers were very easy, just pull the lever to the corresponding number. This machine you have to push in a button which when pushed will lower it immediately trying to raise the wheel height is incredibly difficult. To add insult to injury the little red clip that tells you what the height is is so poorly made that it fell off and can’t be reattached. Completely dissatisfied wish I hadn’t wasted my money on this piece of junk.

Light weight, and high quality!
Size: 17" (2 x 4.0Ah)
I had concerns when we got this mower. It isn’t self propelled, and is smaller than our last one, but it really surprised me. We have a lot of yard, and are on a hill, which added to our concerns. It is lightweight, which makes it really easy to use. You can raise and lower the deck with a couple of fingers. It even goes up the hill easily. The only downside is the battery life. It comes with 2 24v batteries, and needs both to operate. They last about 30 min. My thought was to get a second set of batteries, but they cost as much as another mower. I like the easy maintenance, and light weight, and that it has power and is quiet. Great mower.

Great electric mower for the price
Size: 17" (2 x 4.0Ah)
This was one of my favorite purchases this year. The November isn't noisy, looks much better than my previous electric lawnmower, and was surprisingly powerful for what it was. Out of the box, it was super easy to set up. My only gripe is that I wish the batteries would last a little longer. Currently, it lasts about 45 min per charge.

Lawnmower
Size: 17" (2 x 4.0Ah)
Bought this and two extra batteries. One battery turned out to be bad and won't charge. The lawnmower so far is great. Cuts good and very lightweight. Would recommend it, the batteries not so much.

It actually does the job pretty well
Style: Lawn Edger/Tool Only
I floundered around for a few minutes, then figured out how to use it, and then made pretty good progress on my overgrown sidewalks. Yes, it uses up batteries but that's because it actually has enough power to do the job, unlike many "homeowner" tools. The handle is long enough so I'm not painfully bent over while using the tool, and it feels solid and stable. One thing I really appreciated is that it doesn't have a typical pointless, awkward "safety" interlock button that you're supposed to keep mashed down with your thumb the whole time - it's a comfortable one-finger trigger. Another good 20v tool from Worx. I'm "in".
