The Blackmagic Design Spares - ATEM Constellation 8K - PSU 400W is the internal high-capacity power supply module for Blackmagic's flagship 8K switcher. Because the Constellation 8K handles a massive amount of data processing (40 inputs, 24 outputs, and 4 M/Es in 8K), it has significant power requirements and generates considerable heat.

To ensure professional-grade reliability, the Constellation 8K actually houses two of these 400W modules for redundancy.

Core Responsibilities

  • Load Balancing: When both PSUs are healthy, they share the power load, which reduces heat stress and extends the lifespan of the individual components.

  • Redundancy (Fail-Safe): If one PSU fails, the second 400W module is capable of powering the entire 2RU chassis alone, allowing the broadcast to continue without interruption.

  • Multi-Rail Output: Converts AC mains power into the specific DC voltages required for the high-performance FPGAs, the 40 BNC input engines, and the internal cooling fans.

  • Protection Circuitry: Includes built-in fuses and thermal shut-off to protect the expensive Main PCB from power surges or over-voltage events.

When to Replace the 400W PSU

  • "PSU Failed" Alert: The ATEM Software Control or the front panel LCD displays a "Power Supply Failed" warning.

  • Loud Fan Noise / Clicking: If a PSU is failing, its internal cooling fan may struggle, or you may hear electrical "clicking" (relays firing) as it attempts to stabilize voltage.

  • Intermittent Power-Offs: The unit randomly shuts down or reboots, especially when under heavy processing loads (e.g., using all 4 M/Es or complex DVEs).

  • Input/Output "Glitching": While usually a logic issue, a "sagging" power supply can cause digital noise on the SDI outputs before the board completely fails.

Technical Installation Note

Repair Level: 2 (Moderate).

  1. Dual AC Inputs: Remember that the Constellation 8K has two separate AC power inlets. Unplug both before opening the unit.

  2. Modular Swap: These PSUs are typically modular. They are secured to the floor of the chassis with screws and connected to the main distribution board via a heavy-duty wiring harness.

  3. Thermal Clearance: Ensure the replacement PSU is seated correctly. Any obstruction of the PSU's dedicated air path will cause the new unit to overheat quickly in a 2RU rack.

  4. Harness Verification: Ensure the multi-pin connector is pushed in until it clicks. A loose high-amperage connection can cause arcing, which will melt the plastic connector over time.

Diagnostic: PSU 1 vs. PSU 2

The Constellation 8K identifies which power supply is failing in the menu. You can verify this by:

  1. Unplugging AC Cord 1. If the unit stays on, PSU 2 is healthy.

  2. Unplugging AC Cord 2 and plugging back in Cord 1. If the unit stays on, PSU 1 is healthy.

  3. If the unit dies during either test, you have identified the dead module.

Expert Advice: If one PSU has failed after years of service, it is often best practice to replace both. Since they have likely been running for the same number of hours, the second PSU is often nearing its end of life as well.

Has one of your redundant power indicators turned red on the front panel, or is the entire unit failing to power up?

for polar fleece slippers with leather soles, these are quite nice
Size: 8-9, Color: Red/Black Check
I bought these to replace some Mug Lugs slippers last fall after they had started to come apart from barely a year of use (they were knitted) and have been wearing them constantly since then. The polar fleece does easily pill somewhat but get a hard use and are quite comfortable too. I wear these in the house most of the time as my feet do not like to wear shoes all day. They are comfortable, and do seem to hold up well. The only other issue is until I get my office chair mat replaced, these catch and can cause problems and have a little, but not enough to worry too much about. They supposedly have an anti slip design on the bottom, but if flour falls on the kitchen floor, not so slip resistant. I chose these as one, they are red, but also plaid and like them a lot. Hopefully, I get more than a years use out of them. I have had several polar fleece sock type slippers similar to these in the past, and the last polar fleece pair in Dk Blue and from Land End finally after several years of constant use, the stitching began to come apart and the sole was separating from the body of the slipper on one slipper. They do keep the feet warm, with or without socks and can, at times, get my feet too warm but I enjoy them quite a bit.

Absolute game changer for chronically dry feet/cracked heels
Size: S (up to size 7)-Beige
I had recently bought a pair of silicone heel/ankle wraps to fill out my boot a little since I noticed my heels were lifting when I was skating. I tested them out around the house and noticed they left my heels softer while the rest of my sockless feet got quite dry. So I got these full foot silicone socks to see the effect of having my whole foot covered. I slather the entirety of my feet with Dr. Scholl's Severe Cracked Heel Restoring Balm (love how convenient it is to apply it to my feet with the solid stick form) and then slip them into these silicone socks. After just a couple hours, when I pull out my feet they're (a teeny bit sweaty at first), but then overall soft and smooth and have absorbed the balm fully leaving barely any residue in the silicone sock. I find these silicone socks generally comfortable; I wear them in the evenings while relaxing on the couch, take them off after a couple hours and let my feet breathe a bit, and then reapply my balm and socks and wear them to bed. If I wake up in the middle of the night, which I almost always do (not because of the socks), I'll take the socks off and allow my feet to breathe again. I wear a woman's size 6 shoe and the small size is pretty comfortable. However, I made the mistake of wearing them while being on my feet for a couple hours straight during household chores -- they must've somehow cut off my circulation a bit with the standing, so I wouldn't recommend wearing these silicone socks while being active. And since they're not exactly my foot size, they slide around sometimes and will start to feel tight at my big toe. But if that happens, I just tug on the toe area of the sock to give my big toe more wiggle room and problem solved. Prior to wearing these socks, I was soaking and doing heavy duty exfoliation of my feet every week. These socks seem like they'll work to help me extend the time between soakings and exfoliations. The 5 pack is a great value. So far none have torn, so they seem rather durable. Not sure what I could even do to tear a hole in these.

EXCELLENT FEET MOISTURE PROTECTION
Size: S (up to size 7)-Beige, Size: S (up to size 7)-Beige
Why did you pick this product vs others?: I have burns on my feet and needed something that I could put burn creme on and still walk around in with. I tried other silicone footsie but they would teae really easily. So far these are doing really well for this purpose. They are holding their shape too. The only caution I have is the same with all silicone footsies: They can be slippery on wet floors, so also wear with socks over them. The biggest issues is when they say a size they mean it. The silicone used in these have little give in them, so they won't stretch out and loose their shape. That can be a good thing, or not so good, depending on how well they fit your feet and what your intent is with wearing these. The other issue is if they fit snug around those toes, that tends to be where the first tear in the material will happen. Because of how these are made, the tear is actually more like cracking in the material and once it occurs you won't be able to get much use out of the sock after that. If you are planning to wear them around the house or for long term use, I suggest going up a size or look for the toeless options.

Silicone socks
Size: M (up to size 9)-Beige
The socks are sized large. The quality of the silicone is good. But they slide around on your feet if you try to walk, making them difficult to use and a bit uncomfortable. Unless you are able to sit for long periods of time the likely will not work well. Recommend looking for a better value.
