The timer accurately starts as the ball descends from the upper platform, providing reliable results. The release mechanism can be easily accessed, as the apparatus can be placed on a demonstration table and the person can reach the release cord. A sturdy bronze wire is inserted into a hole in the ball and it is held in place by the weight of the release cord. Pulling the cord gently removes the wire and the ball descends smoothly.
