Tone participated in the Pearl Harbor operation (her seaplanes were among the first to sight Battleship Row), the Battle of Midway (where her seaplane's delayed launch contributed to the IJN's failure to find the American carriers in time), and virtually every subsequent major Pacific operation until she was finally sunk at Kure in 1945.
