A Beautifully Blown and Moulded Large Signed Centrepiece Featuring Bacchus at the Base by DAUM, France, Late 20th Century

An exceptional and museum-quality centrepiece by DAUM, one of France's most prestigious art glass manufacturers. This stunning piece features a large clear violet glass bowl (33cm diameter, 21cm height) supported by an elaborate figural base depicting Bacchus and Bacchante with bunches of grapes and leaves in turquoise-green and violet pâte de verre. Marked 'Daum France' on the bottom, this late 20th-century work demonstrates DAUM's continued excellence in art glass production and their mastery of the pâte de verre technique. In excellent condition, this signed centrepiece represents an exceptional acquisition for collectors of French art glass and DAUM works.

DAUM - Legendary French Glass House

DAUM, founded in 1878 in Nancy, France, stands among the world's most prestigious art glass manufacturers. Alongside Émile Gallé, DAUM was instrumental in establishing Nancy as a center of Art Nouveau glass production. While the firm achieved fame during the Art Nouveau period (1890s-1910s), DAUM continued producing exceptional art glass throughout the 20th century and into the present, adapting to changing aesthetic movements while maintaining uncompromising quality standards. DAUM's work is represented in major museums worldwide, and pieces bearing the DAUM signature are highly sought after by collectors of French decorative arts and art glass.

Bacchus and Bacchante - Classical Mythology

The centrepiece's figural base depicts Bacchus (Roman god of wine, also known as Dionysus in Greek mythology) and Bacchante (female followers of Bacchus known for ecstatic celebrations). This mythological subject connects to centuries of artistic tradition depicting Bacchus with grapes, vines, and wine-related imagery. The choice of Bacchus for a centrepiece is particularly appropriate - as god of wine and celebration, Bacchus symbolizes hospitality, abundance, and the pleasures of dining. The inclusion of grapes and leaves reinforces the connection to viticulture and festive gatherings.

Pâte de Verre Technique - Technical Mastery

Pâte de verre (French for 'glass paste') is a demanding glass-making technique involving grinding glass into powder, mixing it with binding agents, placing it in molds, and firing at temperatures that fuse the glass particles without fully melting them. This process creates distinctive translucent effects, rich colors, and sculptural possibilities impossible with other glass techniques. DAUM's mastery of pâte de verre, particularly in the figural base's turquoise-green and violet coloration, demonstrates exceptional technical skill and artistic vision. The technique's labor-intensive nature and required expertise make pâte de verre pieces particularly valuable.

Violet Clear Glass Bowl - Elegant Form

The large clear violet glass bowl (33cm diameter) provides functional surface for displaying fruit, flowers, or decorative objects while showcasing DAUM's glass-blowing expertise. The violet coloration adds subtle elegance without overwhelming the piece's classical aesthetic. The bowl's substantial size makes it suitable for impressive displays while the clear glass allows contents to be fully visible. The combination of functional bowl and sculptural base exemplifies DAUM's ability to create works that are both beautiful and practical.

Turquoise-Green and Violet Coloration

The figural base's turquoise-green and violet pâte de verre creates striking color harmony while demonstrating DAUM's mastery of glass coloration. These colors evoke natural associations - turquoise-green suggesting grape leaves and vines, violet echoing wine and grapes. The color combination's sophistication and the technical challenge of achieving consistent coloration in pâte de verre add to the piece's artistic and technical merit.

Signed 'Daum France' - Authentication

The mark 'Daum France' on the bottom provides definitive authentication and confirms the piece's manufacture by this prestigious firm. DAUM signatures dramatically enhance value and collectibility, distinguishing authentic works from imitations. The 'Daum France' marking indicates late 20th-century production, when the firm continued its tradition of excellence while adapting to contemporary tastes. Signed DAUM pieces are essential for serious collectors of French art glass.

Late 20th Century Production

This centrepiece's late 20th-century dating demonstrates DAUM's continued artistic vitality and technical excellence decades after the Art Nouveau period that first established their reputation. Late 20th-century DAUM works show the firm's ability to honor classical subjects and traditional techniques while creating pieces relevant to contemporary collectors. This continuity of excellence across more than a century makes DAUM one of the most respected names in art glass.

Dimensions and Presence

At 21cm height and 33cm diameter, this centrepiece offers substantial presence while remaining suitable for dining tables, sideboards, or display. The impressive scale allows the figural base's sculptural details to be fully appreciated while the large bowl provides practical functionality. The proportions create visual balance between the elaborate base and the elegant bowl, demonstrating sophisticated design sensibility.

Excellent Condition

The centrepiece's excellent condition enhances both aesthetic appeal and investment value. For art glass, condition is paramount - any chips, cracks, or damage significantly affect value. This piece's preservation demonstrates careful ownership and proper handling. The excellent condition allows the pâte de verre colors, glass clarity, and sculptural details to be appreciated as DAUM intended.

Investment Value and Collectibility

Signed DAUM pieces, particularly those featuring elaborate pâte de verre work and classical subjects, represent solid investment opportunities. The combination of prestigious maker, pâte de verre technique, mythological subject, substantial size, and excellent condition creates strong appeal among collectors of French art glass, DAUM works, and decorative arts. As appreciation for 20th-century art glass grows and signed DAUM pieces become scarcer, quality examples show consistent market performance.

Display and Function

This centrepiece works beautifully as both functional object and decorative sculpture. It can serve its intended purpose displaying fruit, flowers, or decorative objects on dining tables or sideboards, or be displayed empty to showcase the glass artistry and mythological subject. The piece's elegance suits both formal and contemporary settings, while the Bacchus theme makes it particularly appropriate for dining rooms or entertaining spaces.

Collecting Context

This centrepiece appeals to collectors of DAUM glass, French art glass, pâte de verre works, mythological subjects, and those seeking functional art of museum quality. It would enhance private collections, corporate holdings, or serve as centerpiece (literally!) in collections focused on French decorative arts or art glass. The combination of beauty, functionality, and investment value makes it suitable for both established collectors and those beginning to collect art glass.

Training pad holder literally rises above the competition
Size: 24"X24"
We have been through a variety of potty pad products during our housetraining journey with our Havanese pup. The Petphabet training pad holder has been the best by far and has ended our search for a number of reasons: Pros: 1. Grid design keeps puppy from chewing/tearing/destroying/eating the potty pad. 2. Size is perfect for our pup even as he is getting bigger (15 lbs) - mileage may vary for larger pups/dogs. 3. HERE IS THE REASON THIS PAD HOLDER STANDS OUT AMONG THE COMPETITION - The top grid is elevated off the surface layer where the pad lays, which allows an air gap between the standing surface and the potty pad. This allows the urine to fall to the pad without pooling and without your pup stepping in it and tracking it everywhere! Cons/Areas for improvement: 1. We like blue but it's not for everyone! 2. The "posts" holding the mesh up from the base carry all of the weight of the dog and in some cases jumping or playing on the pad holder can cause the edges of the posts to cut through the potty pad liner, causing a (minor) leak. I would recommend the manufacturer design any subsequent models with larger, flat surfaces on the post supports. 3. The 4 piece design means the base is not solid but has a split down the middle that is not waterproof. This can be remedied by caulking the 2 sides of the base together with clear silicone assuming you will no longer need to disassemble the unit. 4. Poo can get caught in the grid if your pup has loose stool. If not removed quickly your pup may step on it and really pack it in there. After many trials with other products, we are very happy with this training pad holder and have bought a total of 3 units for different areas of our house. I highly recommend for small dogs/pups!

Works Great!!!
Size: 18"X24"
I have 2 pugs and have trained them to "go" on a grid. I started with another brand (Klean Paws) but found this brand (Petphabet Puppy Training Pad Holder) to be superior in several ways. This training pad holder is designed much better. The plastic grid is well supported so the puppy does not get wet paws when waling on the grid. The overall design of the training pad holder makes it very easy to replace training pads. Standard training pads (17.5" x 23.5") fit the medium Petaphet puppy training pad holder perfectly. Just lay the pads flat on the bottom, place the grid on top and clip it all into place with the frame. The frame holds everything in place and keeps any loose ends, hidden from mischievous puppies. It takes a lot of effort to train puppies to "go" on a grid, but it's worth it. I started with one grid in a crate. Then, I gaited off my kitchen area, with 4 medium grids (as shown in the video). You cannot expect a puppy or dog to just go to one spot and do their thing. Dogs like to sniff and walk around before they "go." They need room. I suggest 2 medium girds per medium-sized dog. I have 2 pugs and 4 grids. I reward them with a pinch of peanut butter, whenever I see them go on the grid. I simply pickup the #2 with TP and flush it down the toilet. I replace the pads, in the 4 grids, once a day. NOTE: The sellers of the dog training pad holders seem to come and go. If you cannot find this particular training pad holder, do a search for Mesh training pad holder. Be sure to get a training pad holder that has 3 parts -- the bottom tray, the mesh grid, and a frame that holds it all together. Some of the simpler grids have just 2 parts (bottom tray and top). They are simpler, but do NOT keep paws dry.

Good quality, but my dog didn’t like it
Size: 24"X24"
The product arrived in perfect condition and looks well made. It’s sturdy and easy to clean, so I can see it working well for many dogs. However, my Cavapoo (17 lbs, 1 year old) never liked it. I tried for several weeks, but there was no way to get him to use it. I think it depends on the dog’s preference. For us, it didn’t work, but the product itself is good quality.

Excellent pee pad tray has "legs" to keep feet off of the pad
Size: 18"X24", Size: 18"X24"
My 10 week old Pekingese learned quickly to use it, and Pekingese are a very stubborn breed. We started training her by removing the grid because she was used to paper. It snaps out easily. We used pee pads with sticky tabs to attach the pad, then snapped the "frame" in place without the grid. Within a few days, she had figured it out, so we snapped the grid back in so her feet never touch the used pad. No more wet feet. I bought the medium size that is aqua blue. For those that ask if it will fit their crate...measure your crate! My large crate is 42" x 23" and the tray fits two ways as seen in the pictures. My small crate is 23" x17" and the tray does NOT fit. I wish the company made a 10" x 14" tray for traveling. (pink???) Start using it when you have a couple of days to give your puppy 100% of your attention. 100% attention!! If she/he does not use it, then it is your fault for not paying attention. My puppy would go every 15 minutes at first! Put a WHITE plastic shower curtain liner on your floor so you can see if she misses it. The liner wipes off easily with Clorox wipes or goes in the washing machine. For those puppies who stand on the edge of the tray, but still miss it because their back legs are barely on it, help them walk forward and put plastic under the tray to catch any misses. Now, at 4 months old, she seldom uses it, but it is available. Her pen is getting larger and larger. After she pees outside, we let her run around in in the living room for about an hour, then she goes back in the pen. Her attention span is short and she can't always make it back to her tray in the pen. My husband always brings her in the house after she has peed one time outside, but if I take her outside, I wait until she goes at least 3 times and there won't be accidents in the house. Sometimes, it takes more than 1 time to empty their bladder. This pad tray is not like others on the market. Look closely at other grids, and you will see that other trays do not have the "legs" on the under side of the grid that keep the plastic grid from touching the used pad. My puppy tried to chew on the plastic tray, but she is always in our vision so we just say, "Ahhh!" and she leaves it alone. No problems with chewing. The Ahhh!" stops her every time, and we say it to stop her from doing anything wrong. Some people say their dog chews on it. Just like children, dogs need to be taught. Don't complain about how the pee pad or pee tray doesn't work. Teach your dog or your dog to not chew on it. Like others have mentioned, my puppy likes sleeping on the tray at night, because it has air circulating under it, so it is cooler than her bed. (Not the fault of the product!) We can't break her of that habit without confusing her or removing the tray. She may stop using it if we teach her to get her off it. I have been putting frozen gel compresses wrapped in a towel in her play pen during the day, and as long as the compress stays cold, she will lay on it instead of the pad tray. Always watch, so a dog doesn't chew on the gel compresses. I don't know why some people have said that urine runs out, because it is sealed. Maybe they are not changing the pads often enough. I started out changing them twice a day, then since my puppy started flea and tick medicine, she could start going outside. I changed the pad once a day then. Now, at 4 months old, she goes outside, but we put it in her large kennel at night. (The tray is too big to fit in her small dog kennel.) For the last three days and nights, she has not used it at all, but it is there just in case. If your tray does not have rubber pads on the bottom, buy some or put the tray on a piece of rubber kitchen shelf liner. My tray doesn't slide. If your dog runs to it and jumps on quickly, it may slide, so put something under it. Remember, your dog may not want to walk on it, but it is up to you to teach the dog to walk on it. They don't get a choice! You are in charge!

Hands down, best pee pad holder
Size: 18"X24"
I did so much research to find the right puppy pad holder. I would give this 10 stars if I could. It’s softer plastic but not flimsy. The holes are comfortable for puppy feet. I see a lot with metal grates and pictures of injured doggy feet. Our pups are small and they walk on it just fine. I used to go through 10 pee pads a day. Now one pad lasts all day. Pups can’t go wee wee and trail it all over the house. Since it’s the same pee pad, pups look for the smell and are motivated to pee pee in the same spot. Puppies used to wake up several times a night because they would pee, step in it, tear up the pee pad, make a mess. The night time drama has definitely decreased significantly. Easy to lock, puppies can’t get into it. Easy to open to change out the pee pad. Comfortable to clean in a larger kitchen sink. Lightweight. Sometimes the doodie will go through the grates and sometimes it sits right on top, depending on the size of the doodie. Cleaning doodie stuck in the grate is never fun, but I use an old toothbrush and it works just fine. Very happy with this item.
