From Publishers Weekly Boyle's memorable novel, first published in 1936 and long out of print, and set in the Austrian town of Feldbruck from February to July of 1934, is at once a love story and a chilling political drama. Romance blooms between Prochaska, the resident doctor at the town hospital's ward for infectious diseases, and Pendennis, a young, married American tourist. The attraction between the two is immediate and potent, but as their involvement deepens, Pendennis becomes aware of Prochaska's work for the Nazi party, which many Feldbruck citizens cling to in the hope that it will rescue Austria from economic depression. The lovers' clash is as emphatic as their affinity; as spring wears on, Pendennis's antipathy grows, until she declares to Prochaska that "you take your orders, you swallow it all down along with your pride and your sense or whathaveyou One day they're going to put a pretty little uniform on you . . . and say, 'Now you run along to war, dear, ' and won't that be a lot of fun?" The collapse of the affair seems as inevitable as the tragic, impending war. The novel is reprinted here with an introduction in which Burton Hatlen of the University of Maine elucidates why Boyle's sympathetic view of Prochaska does not signify support of fascism, and with a brief, illuminating afterword by Boyle.Binding Type: Paperback

This book has changed the direction of my life
Format: Paperback
If you are struggling with relationships in the work place this is the book for you. Whether your Christian or not the book will change your life.
Danny’s influence or teaching clearly stream through the book. Carla re-explains, gives her insights, and in a beautiful creative way gives vulnerable examples of navigating conflict. Not only guidance on how to fiercely protect a healthy culture but an honest, relatable look into her own journey. What a pearl. This helped me to sit in a “team meeting” and speak out on issues despite the discomfort I feel. I have a vision and use the truths and tools learned in the book to keep me on the path to the vision. I understand it’s a daily walk with Love and connection being the primary goal.

A wonderful call to leading with power and integrity
I have been a big fan of Danny Silk’s “Keep Your Love On” and ”Culture of Honor”, but there have been times where I have hoped for more examples of the principles and keys put to practice. In steps Carla’s book. I love hearing the wonderful story of staff and church transformed, by its leaders learning to carry a culture of honor and love. This book gave such great insight into what it looks like to start at what seems like square one, and dismantle and rebuild a culture from the ground up.
Thank you Carla and Danny for bringing such great insight into the church culture culture.

Great book!
Format: Paperback
This is one of the best books I've read recently! If you want to stretch your faith and relationship with God this book will do it! The reading is easy and the examples are spot on. The activations, if you really press in and do them, are amazing! I thought I had a hard time hearing the Lord, but the things that came to my mind while talking to Jesus, have changed me and my relationship with Him!

Wow! Did not realize how much I didn’t see in so many interaction.
I read this book to prepare me to join leadership with our church. I had no idea what I was in for until reading this book.
So many important parts to being a leader and being led. Most of all, looking for ways to follow Jesus and point others there to in a healthy, honor cultures was really eye opening for me.
