Bathed in the last embers of daylight, Gunung Batukaru rises like a guardian of time, its silhouette draped in burning clouds that dissolve into the evening sky. A spectacle of fire and serenity, where nature and divinity collide.

Bali’s second-highest volcano, Batukaru is more than just a mountain—it is a sacred realm, revered as the dwelling place of the gods. Its presence looms over the island’s central highlands, shaping not only the landscape but also the spiritual heart of the Balinese people.

At its feet, stretching endlessly like a living canvas, lie the legendary rice terraces of Jatiluwih. The name itself, meaning "truly marvelous", speaks to their breathtaking beauty—a masterpiece of both nature and human ingenuity. Covering over 600 hectares, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is not merely a feast for the eyes but a testament to preservation, harmony, and sustainability.

For centuries, the Balinese have sculpted these landscapes with devotion, guided by the subak system—an ancient irrigation philosophy dating back to the 9th century. More than just water management, it is a spiritual pact, a way of life dictated by Tri Hita Karana—the sacred balance between humans, nature, and the divine.
