Born to slaves in Davidson County, Tennessee, the newly freed Love struck out for Kansas after the war. He was fifteen and already endowed with a reckless and romantic readiness. In wide-open Dodge City he joined up with an outfit from the Texas Panhandle to begin a career riding the range and fighting Indians, outlaws, and the elements. Years later he would say, "I had an unusually adventurous life." That was rare understatement. More characteristic was Love's claim: "I carry the marks of fourteen bullet wounds on different parts of my body, most any one of which would be sufficient to kill an ordinary man, but I am not even crippled." In 1876 a virtuoso rodeo performance in Deadwood, Dakota Territory, won him the moniker of Deadwood Dick. He became known as DD all over the West, entering into dime novels as a mysteriously dark and heroic presence. This vivid autobiography includes encounters with Bat Masterson and Billy the Kid, a soon-after view of the Custer battlefield, and a successful courtship. Love left the range in 1890, the year of the official closing of the frontier. REALLY CUTE SHOE BUT CUT WAY TOO SMALL!
Size: 8, Color: Black Patent
I received the black patent leather shoes today and they are so cute! Sadly I need to return them because they are cut way too small. I normally wear a 7.5 or 8 on dress shoes so I ordered the 8. They are so tight across the top that it's uncomfortable as soon as I put them on. They are smaller than a normal size 8 dress shoe. The big toe area is extremely uncomfortable because it doesn't allow any room for it at all, so my big toe just presses against the side and end of the shoe without even walking in them. I have very narrow feet and these still are too small for me. So I am returning them and I already ordered a 8.5 W and hope that will fit much better. The patent leather is very cute and adds just enough dressy that I can wear them with slacks or my Capri jeans. I like the slip on and the cushion foot bed because it feels soft.
