History tells us that in the early 20th century, the Japanese people underwent substantial change in their culture. These developments also had a huge influence on the legendary Japanese martial arts. The classical Bu-jutsu styles would transform into Budo: Ôthe way of the warriorÕ. At the heart of this movement where three grandmasters: Jigoro Kano (judo) Morihei Ueshiba (aikido) and Gichin Funakoshi (karate). Besides a common vision, a passion for martial arts and their exceptional skills, they shared another common point: their dedicated student Minoru Mochizuki.

Having mastered a great variety of disciplines, Minoru Mochizuki started to teach his vision on budo in his Yoseikan dojo which he founded in 1931.
In 1951 he went to France to introduce Aikido and had a huge role in the spread of judo, ju-jutsu, kobudo, iaido and karate. In the Yoseikan dojo he sought to unite all the martial arts he studied and created an all-round (Sogo Budo) style.

The author, Edgar Kruyning was one of the last uchi deshi (living in student) of this legendary grandmaster. Nowadays he is a leading authority on what remains of Minoru MochizukiÕs teachings today. In this book he clearly illustrates the history, philosophy and vision of Budo, as well as the same basic principles thought by Minoru Mochizuki that makes up the fundamentals of efficient movements and techniques. The table of contents provides a clear picture of what to expect. It is all-round budo what you will discover in this book with around 2000 photoÕs. This is the legacy of Minoru MochizukiÕs teachings, this is the sogo budo of the Yoseikan dojo.

The Art of Ju-jutsu is accessible to all Budo lovers and will be a welcome addition to your library.

Good finish, poor hardware.
Set screws are poor quality and are sometimes powdercoated on the exposed threads. Leads to striped hex sockets and inability to tighten properly. Durable finish as evidenced by no visible damage after throwing parts across the shop in frustration. Ended up running self tapping screws thru parts to complete assembly.
