This bundle provides strong value for Black History Month and gives teachers five complete, classroom-ready literature study guides built for mixed reading levels in Grades 9–12. Each resource includes two differentiated versions—the complete original text and the corresponding adapted text version—so you can run one coherent unit without splitting your class into separate tracks.

Problem: Many teachers want to teach foundational Black autobiographical narratives and testimonies, but the original texts can be long, linguistically demanding, and hard to fit into real pacing guides—especially when reading levels vary widely in one class.

Here’s the solution: This Black History Month Differentiated Literature Bundle for Grades 9–12 gives you five complete mini-units built on a dual-track model: the complete original text plus a streamlined adapted text aligned to the same Part 1–5 sequence. Students can read different versions while completing the same aligned discussions and assessments, keeping whole-class instruction unified and rigorous.

Use these as one-week units, literature circle mini-units, intervention + extension pairings, or “drop-in” Black History Month lessons when you want serious theme/argument thinking without spending weeks on a single long
text.

What's Included
  • 5 differentiated study guides (each title includes original text + adapted text aligned to Parts 1–5).
  • Unified assessment system (the same Discussion Questions, quizzes, and final worksheet work across both reading tracks).
  • Flexible pacing (run the adapted track as a predictable Part 1–5 schedule; extend the original track over more days per Part as needed).
  • Grades 9–12 ELA-ready skills (evidence-based analysis, theme development, author’s purpose, craft/structure, and accountable discussion routines).

Included Titles
  1. Up from Slavery by Booker T. Washington (1901)
  2. Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs (1861)
  3. Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup (1853)
  4. The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano (1789)

This bundle includes a zip file for each title containing:
NOTE: All files are editable and include (PDF, DOCX, PPTX, Google Docs/Slides/Forms) Texts (two tracks per title)
  • Full Original Text: included for each work (best for advanced readers, extension groups, and longer-text study).
  • Adapted Text (Parts 1–5): a streamlined version aligned to the same core plot/events/ideas so the class stays on one storyline.
Student assessments (per title)
  • 10 Vocabulary Words
  • 10 Short Answer Recall/Comprehension
  • 5 Challenge Questions (analysis, synthesis, theme connection)
  • 5 Multiple Choice Quizzes (one per Part)
Teacher materials (per title)
  • 5 sets of Daily Discussion Questions (one per Part)
  • Self-graded quiz versions (one per Part)
  • Answer keys for Vocabulary, Short Answer, and Challenge Questions
  • Key Figures & Places reference sheets (when applicable to the text)
Quick Guide for Teachers Adapted-Only Track (Fastest: Part 1–5 Model)
  • Best when you want a predictable mini-unit structure and manageable daily reading load.
  • Students read Part 1–5 and complete the matching discussion prompts and quizzes.
  • Wrap with the final worksheet sequence (Vocabulary, Short Answer, Challenge Questions).
Original-Only Track (Longer: Multi-Day Per Part)
  • Ideal for stronger readers or classes ready for full-length syntax and original structure.
  • Students read the original text sections aligned to each Part.
  • Use the same discussions and assessments so the unit stays consistent.
Dual-Track Differentiation (Mixed Readers)
  • Assign adapted Parts to supported readers and original text sections to advanced readers.
  • Everyone completes the same Part-level prompts, quizzes, and final worksheet tasks.
  • This keeps pacing and whole-class discussion unified without building two separate units.
What’s the tradeoff of using the adapted version?
Pros:
  • Reduces reading volume and increases accessibility while keeping the same core storyline/ideas.
  • Makes it realistic to teach major classical works within normal pacing constraints.
  • Supports whole-class discussion routines even with mixed reading levels.
Cons:
  • Some original language, side episodes, and extended passages are reduced for brevity.
  • The adapted version is not designed for deep line-by-line stylistic analysis of every passage.
If you have unlimited time and uniform reading levels, a full-length, single-track unit is ideal. But when time and mixed readiness are real constraints, these dual-track study guides let you teach major works with one coherent plan and one assessment system.

BUY THIS ONE!
Model: NewSLS50_52
This is one of the good ones. There are other brands just as good, and manny brands are worse, but this handles well, rolls down easily, doesn't come off at all easily, and adapts to dips and curves like a champ. Appropriately heavy and dead, I'm happy with the way it smothers panel resonances and even at muffling direct sound, like a big hand over my Uncle Harry's eternally noisy mouth. You can rip the foil but you have to work hard at doing that. Remember to buy a brayer; you can roll overlaps nice and thin. Also remember to pre-wipe the sheet metal with a decent solvent like acetone or Stoddard/Varsol. It should last forever.

Good stuff, but watch the temp
Model: NewSLS50_52
I used this in my single cab pickup truck (89 ford.) It only took half the box (10 sheets or 25 square feet) to do the floors, but I bought the big box because I plan to do the doors, back wall, and maybe the roof as well. One thing I learned is that the temperature matters when you’re doing the installation. It was around 55F when I started in the evening, and when it dipped down into the 40s the sheets would not stick to the metal, and were hard to compress with the roller. That’s why I ended up only doing the floors and not any vertical surfaces; i will have to wait for a nice hot day. The other thing is that the foil layer on top is razor sharp at the edges, definitely wear gloves! I didn’t notice until after but I have little papercuts all over my fingers. Aside from those things, the install was easy and straightforward. The sheets cut easily with scissors, and any goo that ends up on your hands or scissors can be cleaned up with acetone (nail polish remover), or lacquer thinner. I would use this stuff again.

Supports DP Alt + Power Delivery from one source
This is one of the very, very few USB-C hubs out there that successfully pushes DisplayPort Alt and 100w PD functionality from one source cable to one device. My monitor has a USB-C DP alt port that also pushes 95w PD and this hub successfully pushes both of those to my laptop, phone, and android handheld console. The marketing material says something about USB PD cannot work with DP alt, but it seems to be working fine for me so who knows. With this little hub in-between the link from the monitor to the device, I can now add a USB ethernet adapter and game controller, and I only ever have to plug one USB-C cable into my device (and I am using a USB4 extension cable with no issues as well) and it all works perfectly!

Supports Reverse Charging a Laptop on Monitors with USB-C PD!
This adapter is unique in that it supports reverse charging + video on the same port. I use this with an LG monitor (60W PD) and an M1 Pro Mac. At first, I had connectivity issues: hub was disconnecting and reconnecting every few seconds. I followed advice to update the firmware on the hub, but that didn't solve the issue. Turns out, my monitor also needed a firmware update. Once I updated the monitor firmware, it stabilized and has been working great ever since.
