We have a few watch kits here at Adafruit but we finally have one that looks good and fits well, even for ladies and kids and others with smaller wrists and hands. Its got a 8x8 bit matrix display and a repurposed silicone watch band for a professional look.
64 LEDs light up to tell you the time in a variety of ways. Built into the kit are 3 different watch 'faces' - a scrolling marquee with time and date, a binary watch display (for geeks, robots and binary fans), and a moon phase display (for beach-combers, werewolves). There's also a built in battery meter so you can check your battery life. Want to make your own watch? Easy! The microcontroller is an Arduino-compatible, all you need is an FTDI Friend and the Arduino IDE and you can design your own watch faces and upload them to the TIMESQUARE.
Engineered for greatness by PaintYourDragon, this watch squeezes 500-1000 full time displays out of a coin battery, and a up to one year 'resting' lifetime, so you can use this as a day-to-day time keeper.
This watch comes with a ultra bright white LED matrix and a black silicone watch band that fits all wrists from children to adult.
The band is an "off-the-shelf" band that holds the watch in pretty well, we'll be creating other bands - the included band is to just get you started! This watch is meant to be hackable, from the software to the band!
This is a DIY kit, and requires some basic soldering/assembly to put together. It is a beginner kit, so this is a fine project to use in learning how to solder. Tools are not included, you'll need a soldering iron, solder and diagonal cutters as a minimum. Check the tutorial page for details on what tools and steps are required to assemble. Take about 1-2 hours to put together. Build it in the afternoon and you'll be done in time to hit the clubs in the evening.

Perfect To Keep A Youngster's Mind Active Over The Summer

Simply put, this is a great activity book to help your child stay mentally active when out of school for the summer. It is not intended to be a full school curriculum, but instead a way to keep children mentally active during the summer break. We have a child leaving 2nd and heading to 3rd grade and were concerned about her skills being lost over the summer. While we do work with her to increase her skillset, we were more concerned about the atrophy that happens when not in school than jumping her ahead. It can be a bit tough for kids returning to school if they go 2-3 months with little book work, so we wanted to help keep her fresh but not fill her summer with full days of 'school' work.
This book is a solid mix of skills with some being easy and others more of stretch. The easy and stretch items will vary with the schooling your child gets and their abilities. I suspect most kids heading to third grade will find most of the work in this book at least a strong refresher and potentially help move them in some areas. This is setup to be a roughly 15 minute daily regime but we have enhanced it with some other work. We have math and science specific activity books as well as a reading workbook that we rotate into the mix. We also keep track of words she has a harder time spelling and use them make a 10 spelling word weekly review and test (review for 4 days and test on the fifth). Most of these topics are in the bridge activities book, but we felt a little extra attention would not hurt and some variety in what she is working on keeps things fresh. We do spelling, reading/writing and a couple 'pages' of work each weekday which comes out to about a 45-60 minute batch of work. The Summer Bridge Activities books is a constant in the mix with a page used almost every day and the other work rotated.

Great summer workbook!
Format: Paperback
So far an easy book compared to the Argo Summer Academy one that was too challenging. I don't like the way the pages are perforated they fall out of the book too easily. I feel like it is a good balance of keeping up skills already learned and softly introducing a little bit of challenge. I like how each day has math and reading. Easy to keep skills up with only 15 minutes of work a day.

Ideal for Summer Learning

The books are made of good quality and are durable for daily use. The pages are colorful, and the text is a good size for children to read. The instructions are clear and cover a wide variety of topics to reinforce children during the summer.
I would like for it to explain some concepts and not just be exercises. It includes answer sheets for all exercises, stickers to reward each day of exercise, and a diploma upon finishing the book. The exercises are designed for 15-20 minutes daily and are meant for children to review every day.
The pages are thick, so even if they use markers, it won't bleed through to the other side. I highly recommend them to avoid the summer gap when returning to classes.

Good book for summer!

I always get my son a workbook for that summer gap between grades, just so he doesn’t forget what he has learned and to get a little head start for the next grade. I usually get another brand but decided on this one and it is so great! Had the same exact material my son learned in second grade so it was easy for him to get in the groove of things and eases him into the next grade
