The Allied Telesis X950-28XTQM Layer 3 Switch is a next‑generation enterprise networking solution built to power fast, secure, and scalable networks. Designed with smart city initiatives and IoT deployments in mind, this switch blends robust routing with intelligent security, streamlined management, and flexible scalability. It delivers reliable connectivity across dense networks, supports advanced VLANs, and ensures data flows precisely where it’s needed—with low latency and high efficiency. It’s a future‑ready platform that grows with your digital initiatives, from campus campuses to metropolitan edge networks, delivering consistent performance in demanding environments.

  • High-performance Layer 3 routing and switching: The X950-28XTQM provides robust Layer 3 capabilities, including IPv4 and IPv6 routing, statically defined routes, and support for dynamic routing protocols. With fast forwarding and deep buffering, it minimizes latency for latency‑sensitive applications such as real‑time analytics, video surveillance, and critical IoT data streams.
  • Optimized for Smart City and IoT deployments: Tailored for the traffic patterns of sensors, cameras, edge devices, and field sensors, this switch enables precise traffic segmentation, efficient multicast handling, and QoS that prioritizes critical IoT traffic while preserving bandwidth for other services. It helps deliver reliable, secure citywide networking that scales with urban initiatives.
  • Advanced security and policy controls: Protects the network with robust access controls and secure management interfaces. Expect granular policy enforcement, ACLs to filter traffic, and role‑based access controls that safeguard configuration data and reduce attack surfaces in public and enterprise environments.
  • Comprehensive management and visibility: Manageability is a core strength with intuitive web GUI and CLI interfaces, SNMP monitoring, and rich traffic analytics. IT teams can create and enforce VLANs, implement QoS policies, monitor network health in real time, and gain actionable insights into traffic patterns across distributed devices.
  • Reliability, efficiency, and scalable design: Built to operate continuously in demanding environments, the X950-28XTQM emphasizes reliability with options for power and cooling redundancy. Its energy‑efficient design, quiet operation for office spaces, and rack‑friendly form factor make it suitable for data centers, campuses, and edge deployments alike.

  • Routing capabilities: Layer 3 routing with IPv4 and IPv6 support, including statically defined routes and compatibility with common dynamic routing protocols to enable scalable and resilient network topologies.
  • Port and uplink configuration: Flexible interface options configured to meet dense networking needs, including copper Ethernet ports and high‑speed fiber expansion interfaces (QSFP/QSFP28) to accommodate uplinks and uplink aggregation. An expansion pathway (1X Expansion) supports growth without forklift upgrades.
  • Security and policy controls: Robust ACLs, role‑based access controls, and secure management interfaces to safeguard configuration data and control plane access, enhancing protection across public and enterprise environments.
  • Management and visibility: Comprehensive management through both a web GUI and CLI, with SNMP monitoring and traffic analytics to help you monitor health, optimize performance, and troubleshoot issues quickly.
  • Reliability, power, and cooling: Designed for continuous operation with options for power and cooling redundancy, enabling higher availability in data centers, campuses, and edge locations. The design emphasizes energy efficiency and quiet operation for office environments.
  • Form factor and integration: Rack‑mountable form factor suitable for standard data center racks and network closets, providing a scalable foundation for a growing enterprise or smart city network.

How to Install Allied Telesis X950-28XTQM

  • Prepare and unbox: Ensure you have the necessary rack rails, mounting hardware, power cords, and management out‑of‑band access options. Inspect the unit for any shipping damage and verify included accessories.
  • Install in a suitable rack: Secure the switch in a standard 19‑inch rack in a climate‑controlled environment. Maintain adequate airflow around the unit and keep port access unobstructed for easy cabling and maintenance.
  • Connect power and basic management: Connect the power cables to a reliable power source with redundant options if available. Establish initial out‑of‑band access or connect a management workstation to one of the switch’s management ports for initial configuration.
  • Initial configuration via GUI or CLI: Access the web GUI or console CLI to perform the initial setup. Enable basic IP management, secure administrator accounts, and configure management VLANs to keep management traffic isolated from user data traffic.
  • Configure network services: Define VLANs, set up IP routing (static and/or dynamic routing), configure QoS policies to prioritize critical IoT traffic, and implement ACLs and RBAC for secure access control. Enable any required multicast optimizations for your environment.
  • Deploy and validate: Connect user and device uplinks, monitor system logs and SNMP traps for errors, and validate routing paths and QoS behavior. Run throughput tests and latency checks to confirm the switch meets your performance requirements.
  • Firmware updates and backup: Check for the latest firmware release and apply updates as recommended by Allied Telesis. Save and back up the configuration to a secure repository to simplify disaster recovery and future upgrades.

Great reference textbook.
Format: Paperback
I love the style of the author's writing for this text. It is not too dense, and they provide humor/ a more personal approach. The way the chapters are divided is great for a quick glance. I like that it provides a section devoted to the techniques of each theory and provides different case examples. I initially went back and forth between renting and purchasing. Ultimately, I'm glad that I purchased it because I think it will be a good quick reference guide.

Best textbook I've ever read, LOVE GEHART
Format: eTextbook
I used another Gehart textbook in a different class and I can't say enough how much I love this author. In 6 years of academia I don't think I've actually enjoyed reading a textbook until this. She has a "needs to know" section at the beginning of each chapter so even if I haven't had time to read the entire chapter before when I need to I can read that and have some basis of understanding. She also includes information on the theorists, and even though I always skip that part I know some people really like knowing about that. I think it is INVALUABLE that each chapter also has a sample case conceptualization and treatment plan template. AS WELL AS exploring the implications for each theory of its strength's and limitation's with working with diverse clients. My only very minor complaint is the Questions for Personal Reflection and Class Discussion. For several of the chapters it really seems like this was written by someone who hadn't even read the chapter because there were questions asking about something that was very minor or barely mentioned in the chapter.

one of the most helpful counseling books I've found
using this in my master's level counseling class and it's a great resource. I appreciate the way it is written/organized/formatted. It offers some historical background to the theory, describes the theoretical concepts and framework, gives a case example, a sort of worksheet/guide for applying it in practice, and cultural considerations for each chapter/theory.

Great w/ADHD
Format: Paperback
This book was highly recommended to me as graduate intern because I struggle to stay focused. This is an easy “get what you need” book of various modalities and provides you the ability to learn enough about the modalities in addition to applying the modality quick reference format. Would highly recommend for anyone that gets extremely overwhelmed learning modalities.
