Released in 1978, their third album refined their earlier punk and new wave influences into a polished pop-rock sound under the direction of producer Mike Chapman. Featuring singles like “Heart of Glass,” “One Way or Another,” and “Hanging on the Telephone,” the record delivered sharp songwriting, tight arrangements, and a clearer focus on melody.

The album reached number one in the UK and broke Blondie into the American mainstream, peaking at number six on the Billboard 200. It remains one of their most successful and enduring works. In 2024, Parallel Lines was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry.
