The GT20-B7002 Barebone System is a compact 1U dual-processor-ready server platform designed for high-density deployments and cost-efficient performance. Built to accommodate Intel Xeon processors, this barebone chassis delivers robust compute power while optimizing memory and storage for a range of data-intensive applications, virtualization workloads, and network services. With support for up to 64GB DDR3 RDIMM memory, four hot-swap 3.5" SATA-II drives, dual GbE, and a full-sized PCIe Gen2 x16 expansion slot, it offers a flexible foundation for scalable IT infrastructure. The onboard IPMI with iKVM enables secure remote management, monitoring, and remote console access, reducing maintenance trips and improving uptime. This design focuses on reliability under load, energy efficiency, and straightforward maintenance—ideal for data centers, labs, or edge deployments where space and cost matter.

  • Powerful performance and scalable architecture: The GT20-B7002 barebone is a true 1U dual-processor-ready server platform built to maximize compute density. It supports Intel Xeon processors, enabling core-intensive workloads from virtualization and database services to enterprise-grade applications. With energy-efficient operation under load, advanced thermal design, and straightforward maintenance, this chassis handles demanding workloads in compact data-center footprints. Its flexible expansion options let you tailor memory, storage, and PCIe add-ins to match evolving IT needs while keeping total cost of ownership low.
  • Memory capacity and reliability: It supports up to 64GB DDR3 RDIMM memory, delivering ample headroom for virtualization, memory-hungry databases, caching, and in-memory workloads. ECC support ensures data integrity across multiple DIMMs, while the memory architecture is designed for scalable upgrades as your deployment grows. Pair this with the GT20's robust I/O and management features for a well-balanced server platform.
  • Storage versatility: Four 3.5" hot-swap SATA-II HDDs provide scalable local storage with minimal downtime. This layout is ideal for dense databases, virtualization storage pools, or archival services, and hot-swap capability reduces maintenance windows. The backplane and SATA connectivity are designed for reliability in 24x7 operation, ensuring steady performance under heavy I/O workloads.
  • Networking and management: The system includes 2 x GbE Ethernet ports for reliable data transfer and network segmentation. Onboard IPMI with iKVM delivers secure remote management, console access, and power control, enabling IT teams to monitor, diagnose, and remediate systems from anywhere—great for data centers, branch offices, and remote sites.
  • Expansion and I/O flexibility: A full-sized PCIe Gen2 x16 slot provides room for add-ins such as RAID controllers, graphics cards, or accelerator cards. This expansion capability supports a range of workloads, from storage acceleration to virtualization augmentation, while the 1U form factor simplifies rack integration and cable management. Together with the hot-swap drives and IPMI, the GT20 offers a versatile foundation for evolving IT needs.

How to install Tyan GT20 (B7002)

  • Prepare your hardware: Ensure you have compatible Intel Xeon processor(s), up to 64GB DDR3 RDIMM memory, and the desired 3.5" SATA drives ready for installation into the GT20 barebone chassis. Have the necessary power cables, data cables, and any PCIe add-in cards on hand.
  • Install the CPU and memory: Open the chassis, install the supported Intel Xeon processor(s) into the motherboard socket(s) and secure them. Install DDR3 RDIMM modules in the memory slots, ensuring proper seating and ECC alignment. Close the heatsink mounting as required by your CPU cooler (not included in the barebone).
  • Install storage: Insert the four 3.5" hot-swap SATA-II HDDs into the drive bays, connect SATA data and power cables to the backplane or motherboard as applicable, and secure them in place. Verify hot-swap backplane engagement for reliable drive removal and replacement.
  • Install expansion cards: If your deployment calls for additional features, insert the PCIe Gen2 x16 card into the full-sized slot and secure it. Ensure adequate clearance for cooling and avoid interference with cables or fans.
  • Power up and configure: Connect the system to a management network and power source, then boot to the BIOS to configure CPU, memory, and storage settings as needed. Use IPMI with iKVM to monitor hardware health, update firmware, set up remote access, and install your preferred operating system or virtualization hypervisor.

Good to have if you've never seen the iTEP exam, but don't rely on it to boost your scores
Format: Paperback
This book is good in that it comes with two practice tests: one in the beginning of the book, one in the end of the book. The grading rubric is helpful too. However, the actual guide part of the book, doesn't help too much with how to improve test scores. What I like least about this guide is that it won't tell you which questions you answered incorrectly on the practice exams. A good test prep guide will tell you what you answered incorrectly, and will tell you what logic to follow to get to the correct answer. In the reading passages, it would be nice to know where I can find evidence to justify the "correct" answer. In the grammar section, it would be nice to know which rule I'm violating. Any test guide should always come with some testing strategies. I.E. If this question is taking up too much time, skip it and go to the next one. This guide lacks simple strategies like that. Simple strategies like that could be useful when incorporated into this guide because there are certain sections on the exam that you can go back to previous questions, but some sections where the "back" button is disabled. Overall, if you've never seen an iTEP exam before, this book is certainly helpful in that it will give you an idea of what you will be testing for. However, this book alone won't help you achieve a score of 6. The table of contents itself will tell you there are only 86 pages of actual content covering test material. That's not enough to cover how to excel in the exam.

Don't buy it
Format: Paperback
It does not prepare for the real test. Using it is absolutely not enough to be approved with good grades. Too expensive for what it offers.
