We worked closely with Mario Rossa in Germany to create a reed specifically for these smallpipes, which until now were only supplied with cane reeds. Cane reeds are beautiful, but highly sensitive to moisture, a major challenge with mouth-blown smallpipes. If a cane reed absorbs too much moisture, it can quickly deteriorate, affecting sound and tuning, and causing ongoing replacement costs.
