Some 13 years have now passed since 80s style Italo-disco enthusiasts Federico Di Bonabventura and Paolo Gozzetti launched their Italoconnection project - a wholehearted tribute to original Italo-disco with more than a few nods to 21st century electronic disco culture. Remarkably, this tidy EP is their first for Bordello a Parigi, arguably this generation's greatest Italo-disco imprint, in seven years. Opener 'Like a Star' (and its accompanying instrumental) is a perfect example of their shimmering, pulsating and undeniably kaleidoscopic sound, with warm chords, surging lead lines and glossy melodic motifs rising above unfussy drum machine beats and a classic sequenced bassline. 'Make It Real', meanwhile, doffs a cap to Bobby Orlando as well as Italo heroes of the dim and distant past, with the accompanying instrumental reminding us of Pet Shop Boys classic 'In The Night'.
