Compared to the iXm recording microphone, the iXm Podcaster works without a built-in battery and without interchangeable microphone heads. It only supports the dynamic cardioid microphone head of the iXm PRO Line from Yellowtec. This makes it the perfect budget-friendly choice for any podcaster that yearns for iXm sound quality.
Cardioid recording pattern
The microphone head with a cardioid recording pattern as a focused head is designed for recording in environments with different sound levels, even in complex acoustic environments. Due to the sound recording from the front, the background noise filters and with its optimum frequency response ensures a brilliant voice recording and clarity. The cardioid pickup pattern is best suited to interviews in various environments such as events and outdoor locations with a lot of traffic noise. When using the microphone head, there is a slight bass gain, but no overall high proximity effect of directional microphones. Thanks to the high-pass filter that is located in the LEA Engine of the iXm recorder, a perfect balance of frequency ranges is achieved.
As a dynamic microphone capsule, the head is characterized by the robustness of the components of the sound converter, especially at high sound pressure levels. The recording pattern is therefore less sensitive in higher frequency ranges compared to an electret microphone head. For comparison: the slow membrane of the dynamic head leads to different sounding recording results.
