A Day of Dyeing and Eco-Printing at 1818 FarmsJoin us at the farm to create a custom designed eco printed habotai silk scarf. We will use a variety of deciduous leaves gathered from the farm's surroundings to create colors and textures only available in nature. Upon arrival we will discuss the various leaves and pigments that we use when eco printing and the prints that you can expect. Next, we will discuss design layout best practices. Lastly, you will design your scarf and learn our rolling
Join us at the farm to create a custom designed eco-printed habotai silk scarf. We will use a variety of deciduous leaves gathered from the farm's surroundings to create colors and textures only available in nature.
Upon arrival we will discuss the various leaves and pigments that we use when eco printing and the prints that you can expect. Next, we will discuss design layout best practices. Lastly, you will design your scarf and learn our rolling techniques for sharp prints. We will then steam your piece for color extraction.
After steaming, we will unroll your scarf and experience the unexplainable awe of the leaves providing you dyes and pigments that appear as though they have been hand painted onto your fabric. Lastly, we will discuss the curing process and how to properly hand wash your scarf.
Your habotai silk scarf is scoured and mordanted before the workshop. The workshop focuses only on the creation of your eco-printed scarf and not fabric preparation.
You will leave the workshop with the scarf you design. The scarf will need to cure for approximately a week after the workshop and be hand washed according to provided instructions.
We will be dyeing the scarves with cochineal, logwood or black walnut during the workshop. Workshop participants will select their dye color preference.
Space is limited to 18 participants.
