3 CD Set - UK Import

• A four-hour, 90-track overview of the Los Angeles music scene between 1965 and 1968

• Featuring a dazzling combination of major league LA players, enduring cult acts and ultra-rare garage punk 45s

• Housed in a stylish clamshell box that includes a heavily illustrated and annotated (more than 20,000 words) 80-page bound booklet, ‘Heroes and Villains’ is a fascinating four-hour trip into the heart of the late ‘60s LA music goldmine.

After The Beatles captivated a generation with their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, the Los Angeles music scene moved beyond the previously-dominant surf, hot-rod and girl group discs to fashion a spirited response to the British Invasion.

Hollywood studios and the Sunset Strip teen clubs played host to a thrilling assortment of bands, with such names as The Byrds, Sonny And Cher and the increasingly ambitious Brian Wilson leading the charge as LA established itself in 1965 as America’s leading music city. The scene moved on to encompass Psychedelia, Sunshine Pop and Proto-Hard Rock before August 1969’s horrific Tate-LaBianca murders traumatised LA’s music community and brought the freewheeling ‘60s to a shocking, apocalyptic end.

‘Heroes and Villains: The Sound of LA 1965-68’ charts the entire cataclysmic scene, with classic hits from The Monkees, Paul Revere And The Raiders, The Association and The Grass Roots joined by vital cuts from Love, The Byrds, The Beach Boys, The Mothers Of Invention, Captain Beefheart, Buffalo Springfield and The Mamas And The Papas.

Featuring enduring cult names (Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Seeds, Electric Prunes), the new breed of Singer-Songwriter (Tim Buckley, Nilsson), the emerging wave of Heavy bands (Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly), nascent Country-Rockers (Gene Clark, Stone Poneys, Gram Parsons’ International Submarine Band) and studio-based, Beach Boys-inspired harmony Pop acts (Sagittarius, The Millennium, The Parade).

In among the unreleased-at-the-time demos, alternative versions and first-time releases, there’s a raft of hugely obscure Garage Punk 45s – many from bands now stepping forward to tell their story for the first time, including The Satans (the notorious ‘Makin’ Deals’), Somebody’s Chyldren (Hollywood legend Mae West’s backing band on her brace of 1966 albums), The Prophets of Old, The Heros and The Odds And Ends.

Great vacuum
Color: Nordic Blue/Space Grey, Style: Miele Guard L1
Bought this to replace a Dyson, and I love it! Strong suction and super quiet. I was especially interested in this vacuum because of allergies and wanted better filtration to keep dust down, and this succeeded. I got no dust blowing around and the house doesn’t smell like dog after vacuuming. I did buy the Miele hepa filter since that does not come with this vacuum. Great purchase for allergies - Worth the money!

Major purchase! Builds muscle
Color: Nordic Blue/Space Grey, Style: Miele Guard L1
I've had a Miele for 14 years before the powerhead burned up. Decided to invest in a new one as 225 for a powerhead was a gamble on one that old. I like to use a vacuum rather than a dust mop, and I have carpet as well. Did a bit of research and decided this one was the one for me. I did keep my old swivel parquet floor attachment as it fits. haven't used the floor head that came with this one much, so jury is still out. The new powerhead is HEAVY. Takes a while to learn to maneuver it well, but it really gets the deep pile carpet cleaner. Love the longer cord and hose. Overall, happy with the Miele Guard1. The only reason for the 4 stars is because it does take muscle to work the powerhead. Quieter than my old one, which is pleasing to husband.

Porsche of vacuum cleaners
Color: Nordic Blue/Space Grey, Style: Miele Guard L1
The Miele Guard L1 Bagged Canister Vacuum Cleaner is the Porsche of vacuum cleaners. I have owned numerous vacuum cleaners over the years. This Miele Guard L1 tops them all. My last vacuum cleaner was an Electrolux canister vacuum cleaner, excellent vacuum which still works after 20 years, but not even close "especially the suction power" to this new Miele Guard L1 Bagged Canister Vacuum cleaner. Let's hope it last as long as the Electrolux.

Ultimately less expensive than cheaper brands. Works much better, too.
Color: Nordic Blue/Space Grey, Style: Miele Guard L1
Expensive but worth it. I used to buy Kenmore's like this and had to take them in every two years to get fixed. The vacuum guy in our town told me that I was wasting money because the Meile (Rhymes with Sheila he said) was so much sturdier and lasted so much longer. I bought the lower end Meile and have never gone back. That first model lasted 10 years with no problems and I traded it in for the model C. That has lasted 20 years and needed work as my kids weren't as respectful with it as they should. I just bought this newer model due to reviews and I am very satisfied. I was able to find a new model that had the box bumped and crumpled. The vacuum is completely fine. The suction is dreamy, the power cord that turns on the rug attachment is encased in the wand so dog hair doesn't get tangled in it. My single wish is that there were more metal parts as plastic ages and cracks. Metal would increase weight. My engineer husband is totally satisfied and looks for opportunities to vacuum. Hard to be mad about that! 😉

Nice Vacuum, But Had Odor
Color: Nordic Blue/Space Grey, Style: Miele Guard L1, Color: Nordic Blue/Space Grey, Style: Miele Guard L1
I can only offer one star for this review. The vacuum looks nice, comes with a hose, floor attachments and an extendable wand. However, it smelled really bad because it was full of debris. The bag has a nice flapper on the input port, which is good because otherwise all the debris would have come out in transit. The unit and floor attachments appear well built and are surprisingly light weight even when crammed full of hair. The color looked nice underneath the dirt in the plastic bag. Unfortunately, I did not get to use this one because the person before me already did --- extensively. I would rate higher if I did not have to return this one and try again for a new unit. Therefore too early to know if this can be recommended or not.
